Dealer Oil Change

Dealer Oil Change
So I took her in for an oil change at the dealer (it was free) and the reminder sticker was for 3000 miles later. Do they not change the mileage even though it takes synthetic oil? Because 3000 miles on synthetic is not time for a change. I assume they put synthetic in.... Just wonderin

You can go up to 10k with the mustang on an oil change. They just want you to come back sooner.
They may have not put in synthetic if you didnt ask for it specifically. They probably put Motorcraft Semi-Syn in.

No, they must have made a mistake... If you had full synthetic you should have atleast 5,000 miles inbetween oil changes... Ford intervals for synthetic blend is 5,000 miles unless it falls under severe driving conditions... ( long periods of idling... Continous stop-go traffic or Racing etc...

What do you guys think of the standard semi-synthetic?
I have been running that along with the 3000 mile interval...
I always used to change my own but I can't argue with $35 oil change considering the 8 quarts+filter...nevermind not having to haul jugs of oil to the town oil collection tank.

My dealer gives free oil changes for life if you buy new from them so I just take it in and have them do it since its . . . free. I think I'd prefer to do it myself but at least everything is documented and a Ford tech I trust is doing the work.
There are a million questions on oil and it can be debated all day long. I just go with the semi they put in from the factory.

And honestly this whole hype about synthetic is seriously over-rated. Buy good oil, change every 5000 miles and call er done. I like clean oil in my vehicles.

Who's "they". I wouldn't trust "them" 10000 miles is alot for any blend. I did the AMSOIL thing with their sso line and in my truck(99 5.3 liter) and the tbn was at 2.1 after 22000 kms. With me sending a uoa to blackstone labs every 5000 kms and changed the filter at 12000. .

The dealer suggested synthetic and I had to think about it but figured it would continue to sit and not be driven a lot so sitting with synthetic would be better than regular / blend. My reminder sticker is not due again until 7,400.
At the rate I'm going I got a year!
P.S. My IOLM was at 41%.

Seems like a fitting place...
I have 1200 miles on my 2012. This morning, when I checked my oil, it was at the bottom of the hatch marks. Should I take it in? Add a quart? Leave it be and just check regularly?
My plan was to do dealer oil changes until the warranty is out and switch to DIY after.

Ever since BMW went to the deal of paying for oil changes (during the "maintenance free" deal they offer to their customers), they too went with a 10,000 mile between oil change policy. Prior to that, when the customer was responsible to pay for oil changes, they recommended 6,000 between oil changes, even with full synthetic.
I believe in "old school maintenance". I use semi-synthetic Motorcraft oil with their oil filter, and do not go beyond 4K. I've done this with my 2005 F150, and it has over 85k, and do issues with engine noise, or problems. I don't see running up to 10,000 miles on ANY oil, especially a filter!

I've been changing my oil every 10,000 miles, synthetic & an extended life filter, since late 90's, never had a problem.
when i sold my '93 GT it had 158,000 mi & my '88 before that had 145,000. both ran like new, no issues at all.
right now my dads Chrysler has 245,000 mi and he hardly ever changes the oil, does use synthetic..

I have 190,800 on my 4.0 and ran a 50/50 blend in it (had to switch to full synthetic last time because they stopped carrying the blend). I changed it every 5,000 miles as the manual said and now go to 7,500 with the blend. Car runs great, no problems at all. I drag race it on the weekends, ran nitrous on it (75 shot) for two seasons and at 90,000 miles pulled the nitrous and put the Xcharger on it.
The only reason that oil change shops tell you 3,000 miles is because ----- they are in the business of selling you oil. Ford is the one who has to warranty the engine, so if they say I don't need to change the oil every 3,000 miles I tend to think they are correct, compared to someone just trying to sell me more oil

Hello members,
Like 99mstng mentioned, your vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor™ (IOLM) system which displays a message in the message center at the proper oil change service interval; this interval may be up to one year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km). When ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED appears in the message center display, it’s time for an oil change; the oil change must be done within two weeks or 500 miles (800 km) of the ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message appearing. The Intelligent Oil Life Monitor™ must be reset after each oil change. If your message center is prematurely reset or becomes inoperative, you should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5,000 miles (8,000 km) from your last oil change and visit your Ford dealer for diagnosis.
Also, to protect your engine and engine’s warranty, use Motorcraft_ SAE 5W-20 or an equivalent SAE 5W-20 oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C945-A. SAE 5W-20 oil provides optimum fuel economy and durability performance meeting all requirements for your vehicle’s engine.
