Custom Order worth it?

Hello everyone I am considering buiding a V6 Premium!

I have never owned a new car and would like to know the difference between :

1. Choosing a car with the exact options I want arleady at a dealer (if I can one)
2. Ordering it custom from ford website through a dealer of my choice (lowest price takes my money)

I will be using an X-Plan approved dealer and want to pick the best option!

Thanks in advance,

If you can find one exactly like you want at a dealer, buy it. The only reason to order one is to get exactly what you want. Ordering will take time, finding one at a dealer is almost instant gratification.
Good luck, enjoy your new ride!

Good luck with your search. I ordered mine because there was no way I was going to find one just the way I wanted it.

How long does it take usually they quoted me 6 to 8 weeks but they said its TBA.

If I went to the dealer to give the 1000$ deposit to begin the order process and for whatever reason I decide once the car is built I do not want it am I FORCED into buying?

Order to delivery can take as little as 3 weeks to 12 weeks, there seems to be no perfect answer to that question.

A dealer can not "force" you to buy it. There can be a million reasons why you might change your mind, death, divorce, illness, money problem, to I just don't want it. He can however (in some states) keep your deposit or make it a lengthy refund period. Most dealers will accept a $500 deposit to order a car. I would put as little deposit down as possible, just in case.

My whole issue will be with delivery time & incentives.. How can I gurantee the 4k discount (already printed it out)
Ford is offering 4k off MSRP until 3/31/14 and if I dont ''get in on that'' I can kiss my mustang dreams goodbye...

I thought I had to go yesterday ASAP to put in an order to ''lock them in''
While I could use a month or two to save up (GT maybe??) if I miss out on the rebates I wont even be able to buy a ''plain jane'' v6 let alone premium..

program # 50226 : 750$ off mustang RCL CUSTOMER CASH
program # 12490 : 2000$ bonus cash
program # 12494 : 1000$ mustang bonus cash
program # 12502 : 1000$ mustang bonus customer cash (for having premium model)

Ford changed the incentives on Factory Order units about 3-5 years ago. If you order a car, and the rebates at time of order are "X", and when it comes in, they drop to "Y", you don't lose out. Your guaranteed the rebates you ordered the car with AT MINIMUM. If they get better by the time the car comes in (usually the case lately), then you get more money off your car.

I ordered mine with a $500 deposit and it took 52 days order to delivery. As another poster said, there is no magic number of days. About the only predictable time issue is the closer you are to the factory the less time it will take in transit once it has shipped.

What I am confused about is if I don't start the order process (giving a deposit) and have a printed rebate (along with those program #'s)

Will I get that price (as long as it's before the 3/31/14 date) or I will be ''stuck'' if ford decides to change them before the original end date??

You get the best rebates available to you between ordering and pickup. If yours is $2000 when you order and Ford changes to $1000, you're locked in for $2000.

If yours is $2000 when you order and Ford changes to $3000, you get $3000 when you pick up the car.

So if I still have not "ordered" the car (before 3/31/14) can the rebate change?

If you decide to special order, make sure you get a DORA. Make sure the dealer has allocation. The dealers may drag their feet and not give you the DORA on site, so make sure you stay on top of them for that order number after you put down a deposit. (Don't put more than $1000 down) Send a PM to Deysha with your order number, date. She is the best and will help you out with the order process and tracking. Hi Deysha

Good point about allocation. If your chosen dealer does not have any allocation your order goes nowhere. If you do place an order make sure your dealer places it as a retail order and not as a stock order and gives it a priority as close to 10 as possible. And definitely get in touch with Deysha. She is terrific and will keep you informed about the progress of your order.

the rebate can change, but you're locked to whatever was the best deal for you.

How do they determine if they have allocation? Would a dealer even take a order if they knew they had no allocation?

Doesn't matter if it changes...you are locked in for at least what it was when you order and if it goes up you get that. ...I am sure it will probably go up right after I take delivery! !!

just go to the right dealer. Plus we have folks right here on the Forum that work for Ford directly that can get the wheels spinning for you too.

Hey JC, going on top of what the previous member said, I'm one of those guys on here who works for a dealer. Many people know me on here and can attest to my honesty. I've ordered lots of cars for members, and I always love helping members with their orders, even if I can't directly sell them a car. I just want to make sure members get a fair deal & are treated right.

If you want, I'll be happy to price out your car for you tomorrow when I'm at work. And if you can pass along your email address, I can then send you a VOC of your build so you have the X-Plan prices.

Heck, if your close by to me, I'd love to order your car for you. X-Plan is a fair deal and it caps your doc fee at $100 ( some dealers have very very high doc fees). Just shoot me a PM with your specs & options & we can chat if you like. Your always welcome to call me too. My number is in my sig below. Thanks for your time bud

Jeff
