Cross shopping the Mustang

Cross shopping the Mustang
Cars like the Camaro, Charger and Challenger are similar so it's natural to cross shop them.
Prior to the 2010 Mustang I didn't think I'd own a Mustang again, but they improved the handling so much with the 2010 all of a sudden I was considering it again. Some tragic family events meant 2009 left no time for thinking about getting a new car. Hopefully in about 4-6 months the last of the events will be dealt with and my wife's chemo will be done. After that I can think about getting a new(er) car to replace our now 8 and 10 year old cars.
I had been considering cars like a 335i, and an S4, even an M3. Now with my wife getting sick I don't think it will be wise to spend that much on a car so I'm considering a Mustang but also a WRX.
Has anyone else cross shopped the WRX? The WRX seems to be slightly more practical with 4 doors, a little friendlier going to the ski hill, etc.... But I also like to take my car to the track and I'm sure the Mustang would be a lot of fun there. I'd be interested in opinions from those who considered the WRX as well, what swayed your decision and whether or not you have any regrets.

First sorry to hear about your wife and I wish you all nothing but success going forward. The only car I crossed shopped was the M3 with the GT besides a GT500. I really like the M3 but I really like the '11 GT more.

First best wishes for you and yours.
I've been cross shopping the 370Z, 330hp seems low all of a sudden
The 3-series(m3 is out of my league)
Love the audi S4 but id have to sell my daily driver to pay 54k ish for it
the Corvette is tempting at 44k after rebates
A porsche would be great but prices have skyrocketed since I got my last one.
I thought about the wrx, and the evo for that matter, but they seem too boy racer for me.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.
Wow Corvettes are much cheaper in the US than in Canada!
Hmmm, a guy my age driving around in a WRX might seem a bit funny as they do have that boy racer image. Oh well, that alone is not enough to stop me from getting one.
I guess I have a few months to ponder things, but it's going to be tough deciding.

I almost got the 335i when i turned in my 328i. The 335i is fast, and handles super nice. However with the fuel pump issues, i held off. I wanted more HP, and handling. I went and looked at Mustangs again, and desided to order a 2011, im very happy with my choice. 335i are going to be about 10k more give or take. Ron

If you're looking for a nice AWD performer inside and out. Go with the SHO. AWD v6. 365hp 350ft-lbs. 0-60 5.2. 1/4 mile in 13.7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsWvK92HNpM

Otherwise, forget the wrx and go with the mustang. You can always buy winter tires as well. I had a set and it worked out nicely. Really tho it boils down as to what you can picture yourself driving... BMW, Audi, Merc, etc.. has a totally different following, class, engineering, etc... compared to a Subaru. You'll have to figure out which brand/car defines you and your needs.

I may be a little biased here, but if you're looking at cars like the S4, take a look at a Legacy GT or even a used Mazdaspeed6. The AWD, turbo, and 6-speed trans make them nice for all-purpose vehicles, and they still have "enough" power to get you around comfortably.

I bought the Bullitt knowing I'd have to park it for 5 months during the winter. But it will last years that way. (I don't rade often and certainly not Bullitt.) Besides you can't drive a Mustang at thrill level in the winter anyway.
Kept my old beater. Then 2 years later bought a used 08 FWD for winter use.
Get the Mustang then get a used scooby dooby.
Your wife will be better!
