New Mod

My new Mod arrived today, tranny bushing!

Going to see about installing this weekend.

Does anyone have the Torque specs for the bolts on the cross member? The 4 outer bolts and 2 inner.

This was a comment by someone else on Steeda's website on page 2 for that product.
Take it for what it's worth.....but I would attempt to verify those values at least.

Also, there is an install video on YouTube by Steeda for that part that gives those values.

I installed the Steeda transmission mount insert bushing today and I have to say this would easily be one of the best bang for the buck items you could do. Super easy to install and it feels far more solid. I personally can't hear any added NVH as well. Did this just in time to really try it out tomorrow at the Speedventures Roval at Auto Club Speedway....can't wait! Oh and for those of you that are like me and HAVE to torque everything down... 4 outside bolts that hold the crossmember to chassis are 46 ft.lb. 2 nuts that hold transmission to crossmember are 52 ft.lb.

You can check out the install here:

Per the video ... at 1:37:

- 4 outer bolts are 46 ft. lbs.
- 2 outer nuts are 52 ft. lbs.

Hope that helps!

Keep us updates as to the before & after.

Best Regards,

TJ

Cool thanks everyone. I did get that installed this morning, and it was very easy to do. The most difficult part was getting the car on jack stands. Will let you know how it is after I drive it will be out in it this afternoon.

For sure, let us know! I've been looking at this upgrade but I'm worried about excessive vibration as a result. Did you make any modification to the center part as some people recommend to limit the vibration

The good. I drove about 40 miles today, and the shifting feels a little more crisp and solid, and the 2-3 feels better under hard acceleration. I did get a couple WOT in and those felt really good and I feel more confident about that shift. Before the mod, I was concerned about missing it.

Most of my take offs were spirited, somewhere between 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, and all shifts felt very good and solid, and inspired confidence. No miss shifts.

On my car, I would say this mod is an incremental improvement, since I had already upgraded my shifter to MGW, which was a huge improvement over stock.

The bad. For me, I could tell a very noticeable increase in NVH during spirited driving. Under normal driving there might be a little, but it wasnt too noticeable. I seemed to feel it from 3500-6000 rpm. I could feel the vibration in the seat belt latch and in the seat, and pedal. This might be my imagination, but the car seemed louder too (engine and exhaust). Hi-way driving seemed a little more noisy too.

No I didnt make the mods to the bushing, drilling the hole or removing the center tab. Yet! But I am going to have to try those, as this is my daily driver, and I wont like my butt vibrating for too long. The seat belt was the most irritating.

I dont know if I'll be able to make the bushing mod tomorrow, but I'm going to run to Lowes and pick up a hole cutter. It might be a few days before I can get to it.

^^Keep us posted on the differences if you do mod the bushing further.
Looking at one myself and only want to do the install once so I will mod it pre install if need be.
Drilling a hole on the wide rectangle top section seems to be the most common modification most make to it.

I have the Steeda shifter bushing as well and I am going to do these both together when I get some spare time.

Everyone complains of increased NVH with this mod...I don't think I would ever install this unless my car was pure track duty.

I'm sure all are different, but in my opinion it is not bad at all. If anything, it adds to the throaty acceleration sound of the car. I never notice it and always have music playing anyways. Really helps clear up shifts and stop locking you out of 3rd gear

Covering up vehicle noise with music should never be acceptable!!

I like how it helps the shifting, but at certain rpm's I dont like the vibration through the seat belt latch. It's an annoying tickle while driving.

I havent had a chance to make the 2 in. hole mod to it. Going to work on that this weekend.

I made a mod to the bushing this afternoon, and it helped a lot with the NVH, if not removing all of it. If you do not want NVH I would recommend making one of the mods to the bushing before installing.

Getting the bushing out was a major pain, and I would recommend when you install it, that you use WD-40 or equivalent and spray it in the transmission slots where the bushing goes. It slides in so much easier! It might have helped to remove it as well.

I did a similar mod as drilling the 2 inch hole. I used my band saw and trimmed out all but 3/4 to 1 inch of the flat part of the center tab, enough for it to provide some level 'support'. Leaving the 2 outside triangular tabs intact and their full length.

My initial test drive following is: The improved shifting is still there. The mod did not seem to impact it, and I could immediately tell the NVH was greatly reduced if not completely gone. I'll know more this week after I drive it to work a few times how much it helped with the NVH.

I did not take a picture of it.
