coolant temperature sensor missing on 3.7

well today i was looking for the (ect) engine coolant temperature sensor and on mitchel1's picture its pointing at the bolt on the thermostat housing saying that the bolt is the sensor... that cant be right. i have looked everywhere i could think of and didnt see one. theres got to be one somewhere on this car.

They didn't give you one because you were a GM fan before

I believe the newer Ford engines have cylinder head temp sensors, not a true coolant temp. I believe there is one in each head.

That is correct, although the part is called the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor despite the fact that it is located in the heads and not the intake manifold.

The 3.7 and 5.0 engines don't have water temperature sender. It's only found on the GT500. If you want to add one, you have to add a tee in the upper radiator hose. Here's what mine looks like on my 3.7:

what did you add it for? did you put a coolant temp gauge in your car?

Yes. As you can see, the oil pressure gauge came with a tennis ball.

Pod is from SpeedOfSound - $150
Gauges from SpeedHut - $225

The gauges can be configured pretty much any way you want them - satin silver, chrome, or black bezel, face color, font style, needle color, backlight color, and even the graphics on the face (I opted for "Ford Racing").

im gonna have to add that to my to do list. they look great. wonder if i can get them to change colors with the my color gauges.
