Just be generally smart, dont put the hose on the ALT. and let it run for 5 minutes, no wires.. ect. Dont do it when the motor is hot, I belive when its warm. Buy a can of engine de-greaser and it will have directions on it.

There are specific areas listed in the owners manual, you might want to check it out. Air filter box, plugs, etc are some areas I remember.

I just use a soft brush or wash mit and rinse it off with only "mist" from the hose...not a hard stream of water. After I wash under the hood, I use my compressor to blow all water out of all the nooks and crannies.

Degreaser works well, as does Simple Green. A note of caution though...if you have an asphalt driveway with blacktop sealer on it, don't use degreaser or Simple Green as they will eat away the blacktop sealer (don't ask me how I know this). If your driveway is concrete or unsealed blacktop, you should be OK. Hope this helps.

Like Dewy I use Simple Green and lightly rinse with a hose. I then use a leaf blower to dry the engine bay. I have found that some degreasers can stain plastic and aluminum so be careful.
