"Check Charging System, Advance Track Warning"
Good day Mustang fans,
2011 Mustang GT owner. I have looked all over the internet and didn't find much on the topic. I found people only talking of the problem as no one really posted what they did to fix the problem besides burn wires. If the "Check Charging System, Advance Track Warning" turns on, and you have check every last thing for the problem and are about to give up please try this. I had to have my car towed, and even taken to the Ford garage, and they could not figure it out. I was getting upset. The car would shut off on me as I was driving down the road at 60 MPH speeds. Coming up to a STOP sign and it would shut off and I would scramble to stop the car. Sometimes I would park the car, and moments later went to move the car only for it to not start and give me "Check Charging System, Advance Track Warning". I had it towed to a local garage due to it would not start, and we did some testing and it turned out the PCM relay on these 2011 Mustang's seem to go back over the life of the car. Mine start acting funny around 50K miles. When I would start the car low idol would seem sluggish and almost want to shut off until you got up past 3K RPMs. To be honest it ran like ****. I even have a stage 3 Roush package on it. My key would lose single once and a while and it would lockup like it didn't know the key. So before you replace the alternator, or starter please check the PCM relay. I know it sound dumb as the part is only like 25-30 but this is an easy test just swap relays with the fuel pump relay and you can at least trial it. If it works then you need a new relay. Below I attached a pic of the fuse panned under the hood. You can switch the fuel pump relay into the PCM relay, and the PCM relay into the fuel pump relay to test. Once you have swapped relays start the car and see how it response. Once I replaced the relay my car started to ack normal again. Would not shut off on me and overall seemed to run better, and my gas mileage went back up to 24MPG's.
Hope you find this useful.
