Center Stack Evolution 60's to Current.

After Seeing the New Teaser Pic of The Console and Center Stack and How Much It Has Changed From The Current Car, I Had to Do a Comparison of the Center Stack Evolution. As I Posted In The Teaser Pic Post....

Much Nicer In My Opinion Than The Camaro's Tupperware Quality Appearance.

That second one, the '68, looks to be THE inspiration for the 2010 (they can keep the phony wood though.)

The new one does look pretty sweet, but I also like the classics, especially the first one (64.5-66?)

That's funny! I am always complaining about how bad the simulated wood looks in muscle cars, but I guess it is a sign of the times when people liked stickers of fake wood on their car.

The classiest fake wood I ever saw was in our old Granada. Hoo-boy.

You seem to have skipped the '94 - '04 stack.

You forgot the SN95 interior

As nice as the '10 stack's chrome looks...the whole console looks like its too flat.

It's gone missing; he had a picture up of a SN95 Saleen stack.

It's the the fact you noticed it that counts.

The 2010 just seems to be so much more sophisticated than the earlier ones; granted, I do love the looks of the classic stacks, but I think that this is a positive evolution.

+1.

Makes one realize just how ugly the '80s interiors were.

The Mustang owes most of it's heritage to the early Thunderbirds. Inspiration originates with the 1958-60 Thunderbird designs which were the first cars to use a console to make the intruding driveshaft tunnel a functional feature. The high driveshaft tunnel was a result of sinking the floorpans low around it for a lower roofline.

1958-60

1961-63

1964-66

The early Thunderbird stacks look cool in a vintage cruiser sort of way, but I like how the shifter is in the console of all of the Mustangs.

I'm just glad we've evolved well beyond those giant skinny, rock-hard steering wheels.

, I Took A Good Amount of Time Looking Through Brad's Archives To Find Good Representations of Each Major Change To Post For Comparison. Oh Well, It's Back Now Though.

The SN95 always reminded me more of a '60s Corvette than a Mustang.
