Every now and then when I start the car it's as if the starter gets stuck and keeps on turning the motor but the car won't start. I have to take the key out and restart it for it to actually start. Then when it is running I can smell gas. My mods are steeda intake and tune combo. Anyone else experience this, could it be related to the tune? I still get the surge at idle where it goes down pretty low as if to stall. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine's done this twice, but the car started on both occasions. I'm not sure what's going on here.

The car has auto start, and if it doesn't start right away it will keep turning.

The gas smell, does it happen every time or maybe right after you fill the tank?

I notice the gas smell when the starter incident occurs. So the starter thing is normal?

Mine has done this twice. 1st right after I removed the positive battery cable, so I thought that was OK. It did it last night, just like 2 seconds. All I have done to mine is add the Flows. Kinda forgot about it til I read this.

I haven't heard about a gas smell but the starter issue is well documented. https://themustangsource.com/f726/st...-issue-485021/

You need three things to start a car, air, gas and spark. Gas smell is because of raw gas being sent through the valves when it didn't start, no biggie. It will just burn off or evaporate once the car gets going but you will get that smell a bit.

Maybe you got a carburated pushrod 5.0 instead. Just sayin'. To OP, before starting the car, are you giving it any gas at all !

I suspect this is the known and relatively common issue affecting most of the early 5.0s. It happens to a lot of us, and it's not mods, as mine is completely stock (including tune) and it does this once in a blue moon, although I haven't noticed a gas smell. Some people they have to take the key out and try to start again, others it will start itself after a few seconds of letting it turn over. For everyone though it only happens once or twice. I use mine as a daily driver and have probably started it 300 times, it has only "stuck" around 5 times total. Not sure on what conditions cause it but have been a few theories like the engine being flooded with gas.

If it's that it's not going to be an issue, it's been known since like July, and no one's engine has exploded or anything. But that's assuming it's this issue of course, but it does sound like it. If it happens perpetually though then it's something else.

I've had this issue a few times myself. I have noticed that it only happens WHEN I use the auto-start. If I hold the key cranked until I hear it finally start then it NEVER happens. Auto-start seems to be the issue.

I hope there is a TSB on this soon. It's happened to me at least 4 or 5x so far. Kinda embarrasing having a new car stall on you.
