Warning 2011 GT Wheel Clearance Issues

As per a Customer Call yesterday the 2011 Standard Brakes have less Clearance between the caliper & wheel than the prior 05-10 Cars. Please be Advised before ordering any wheels for your 2011 Gt that your wheel manufacturer has test fitted the front wheels on a 2011.

I would surmise any wheel that will clear brembo's would not be an Issue on the Standard Gt Brakes.

2011 V6 Cars use the 05-10 Gt Brakes so fitting should not be an Issue on these cars.

Please be advised I am simply relaying Info from a customer on specific aftermarket wheels he tried on his car. I have not verified at any other source at this point.

I placed a call to Carroll Shelby Wheels and they are going to research this issue and update me on the results as far as their Wheels. I have been working with them since 05 on these types of concerns. Good People!

In the meantime anybody that Has changed the wheels on their {2011 Gt with standard brakes} successfully I would ask they post their results here to help out other forum members.

Might want to Sticky this One.

KC

Thank you for this. I think it's about time there was a stop to the possible assumptions that anything that fits on the 2005-10 would work on the '11.

You are welcome!

Since 05 I have tried to be the RETROFIT GUY with all the answers. Unfortunetly Since the Forum Hack Last Year and My Current Situation with my Son I have not been able to be as on top of things as I would Like. Especially on the 10's & 11's But I keep Trying!

Some of my other posts in the OEM Parts sections do address other retrofit issues though just got to do a litle digging.

Regards,

KC

I bought 19x8.5 Saleen GT500 style chrome wheels from AmericanMuscle. Part No. 94-11. Installed on 2011 Mustang GT. These wheels fit okay, brake calipers clear. However, the wheels are offset outboard 0.75 inches compared to the stock 19x8.5 wheels the car came with. Hopefully that will not be a problem - certainly no wheel well clearance issues.

Yeah, those wheels at American muscle that they show to fit 94 to 11 model cars are all set with the offset for 94 to 04 cars. The 8.5" wide wheels shouldn't be a big fitmnt issue but the 10" rear wheels can be a problem.

They updated the offset on their 10" GT500 wheels to fit the 05-11 better.

KC, as far as diameter, the 2011 stock calipers actually have a better chance of interfering with wheels than the Brembos (we are talking actually 1-2mm only). Take it from someone who has tried to see if his 17x9 would clear the Brembos; they did by a hair when I tried on my friend's GT500 but my 2011 finally came with the stock brakes and required a little grinding in order to clear.

Offset should not be an issue with the 2011 stock calipers vs. the Brembos

One interesting though, the 2011 stock brake pads and calipers are the same so you can take a 05-10 caliper bracket + disk and then fit any 05-10 mag on the 2011

I tried on my old wheels http://www.wheelreplicas.com/bullittmwheels.html, 20x8.5/10 offsets +36/+45 with 265/295's and they fit awesome. The only reason the front cleared the Brembo's was the spoke design, it was curved out, and it barelybarely fit. About the same, or less clearance as the factory Brembos. I wish I had my camera then, I'd have taken better pics.

The steering gear in each Mustang is different and depends on the wheel diameter when the vehicle was manufactured.

The length of the stroke is different for the various wheel diameters.

Something with those RTR rear wheel offsets that's starting to bug me now. When i don't like something, i change it. The SVT PP wheels look very nice, they're forged aluminium and i've seen a grabber blue 2011 Shelby with those almost same wheels at my door step.

I think I know the car you're talking about. I never got why the RTR wheels come with the ~31mm offset, when they have other ones that are closer to stock. I'm sure you will be happy with your new set. Along with your desirable and soon to be unavailable Sterling Grey.
