Yes, the Ford decoder in the first link I posted is apparently flaky. The second link explains what is shown in each position of the VIN.
Position 1 is the country code - 1 = U.S., J = Japan, etc.
Positions 2 and 3 are the manufacturer.
Position 4 is the restraint type.
Positions 5-7 are model.
Position 8 is engine type - 5.0L Coyote V8
Position 9 is a check digit.
Position 10 is the year - D = 2013
Position 11 is the factory.
Positions 12-17 are a sequential number.
The stuff in the second link is somewhat out of date from the look of it.
The VIN will not show things like leather seats, track pack, etc. The model code in 5-7 will tell you some of that, but not option packages.

California Smog? What is that mean? More restricted than AZ car or?
BTW... I paid for my car 31,622.29 w.o the extended warranty but i ended up buying the LONGHORND Service contract ( platinum ) until 75000 miles or 6 years.
Not sure if i really need that... I hope my dealer does not pro rate me to remove it because they been steering me around... not to cancel it.
They said it covers the car bumper to bumper for 75000.... @ 50 deductible..
