Believe me, I waited for 35 years for Ford to come back around.

I still can't keep the grin off my face every time I drive my "old" 500 horsepower 2008 GT500. I couldn't imagine sitting here on my ever growing pile of cash twiddling my thumbs waiting for the next best Mustang to come along, only to wait again for the next best Mustang to come along...

Well Said. One of my best friends just died at 36 years of age. I picked up my 2011 Shelby last Monday. I just love the car, it is so fun to drive.
If an auto manufacturer does its job the cars will get better every year and make you want to buy the newest thing. That said, just decide when enough is enough, for me the Shelby dropping 120lbs and having 550 hp is enough.

Waiting till a bit later, the mustang isn't going to magically have 4 bangers in the GT500.
me personally, I'd wait..... either way you cannot go wrong.
but I'd wait.

I dunno, exclusivity would probably be the deciding factor for me if I was in the market. Hopefully there will be many years ahead for the GT500, ergo the Boss would be more special this go-round. If its simply a matter of performance, I'd wait and see how the cars pan out.

My 2 cents, 2012 Boss. On street tires, there's probably no difference in a straight line and the Boss might out handle the GT500 with a lower curb weight. Plus, the Boss will have a lower MSRP (who knows what the price will be with ADM).

My 2011 Shelby could be used as a daily driver without a problem. If you get poor weather I would pick up a set of 18" wheels and have a set of Bridgstone Blizzaks put on for the winter time. The car really does not make any boost unless you get on it. That being said how do you not get on the gas hard with a car like this.
The Boss will have the same problems, lower ride height and performance tires that will need to be changed for winter driving. If Ford stays true to what a Boss 302 was back in the day, it will handle very well and may pull 0-60 and 1/4 miles times around what the GT does. But we wont know until its out. My guess different exhaust, 91 octane tune, and CAI to put the HP a little above the GT.

I've been shopping the GT500 market in the area. So far my best offer is $1250 over invoice for the GT500 and $20k for my 39k mile 2008 GT/CS. I think that is a pretty good offer for my car. One of the things I'm a little worried about with the 2011 GT500 is the aluminum block that doesn't use the typical sleeved bores. The GT500 uses the Plasma Transferred Wire Arc technology which from my understanding does not allow the block to be rebored. This could mean a very expensive block replacement if there was engine issues down the road.

As for waiting for the Boss or buying a GT500 now, that is obviously a personal choice but my plan is to wait for the Boss. I owned a Boss Mustang years ago and would be first in line for a new version. If nothing materializes or the price is too high (more than $45k), at that point I will probably start looking for a low mileage '11 GT500. The other deal breaker on the Boss will more than likely be dealer mark-ups.
I was also very interested in the '11 GT/CS until I found out it was not available with the Brembo package. Dumb move on Ford's part IMO. I would like to have the best performing Mustang I can get for a reasonable price but I am also not interested in having one that looks exactly the same as every other.

Recently I've been thinking about replacing my 2008 GT/CS daily driver. I have had my eye on a few Race Red 2011 GT500's in the area but with the rumors of the 2012 Boss 302, I'm trying to decide which I would like better. Of course its hard to make that decision when I don't even know the specs on the Boss 302. My biggest concern with the GT500 is daily driving a s/c car, the aluminum block, the price of the tires, no spare tire, and that it may not be as nimble (fun to drive) as a Boss 302 or even a GT. I test drove a 2008 GT500 a while back and it felt so heavy and didn't turn very well at all. The GT500's in the area are not moving very well so I'm pretty sure I can get a great deal.
So what do you guys think? If I can get a great deal on a 2011 GT500 should I just do it and not look back or wait on the Boss 302?
