The cover looks darker, but I might be insane.

Paint on a non metal surface always looks a little different. But it looked good to me.

The first close up, the cover definitely looks like its closer to purple. Good luck with the re-spray

wouldn't do it, i made the same exact mistake a few yrs ago... the second layer will most likely crack and spider-web within a year

I agree..you see those slight color differences between painted metal panels vs. painted plastic pieces all the time from the factory. I'm very fussy, and if I was in your position I'd rather keep things as is, than have them redo the job.

Looks fine to me but i know what you mean. My rear bumper on my PW sixxer seems like it has a slight off-white hue to it. You cant really tell but if you look at it for a bit you can see it. Bothers the hell outta me

^This.

You could go round and round on this. And I am with the 'don't add much paint to it' crowd. Bumpers flex just with temperature, thick paint is bad.

I don't notice the difference myself. It is, though, your baby, have it done right by you.

I think I am safe on the spider cracking, because this was a brand new non-painted replacement, so it only has roughly the same layer count as if they had been able to fix n shoot the damaged one from the factory; at least that's my logic

The damaged one wasn't badly damaged, but the impact broke underside retainers clean off.

mine was also a brand new Ford, not after mkt, rear bumper cover. The color was a little off so i had them redo it and the second layer started cracking within months.
abt 2 yrs later i bumped a pole in a lot and a big piece of paint fell off.. but the first layer underneath was absolutely perfect, no cracks at all, didn't even scuff. and they had been done only one day apart.
one layer of flex prime & paint is all a urethane cover can really take and still be flexible.

I hope my results are different than yours

Bumper covers, unless mangled or broken, are typically fixable and shops prep and paint without issue - in all cases they never strip the old paint all off, and they cone out ok ... my hope is that this falls into that ok category

Just dropped it of for the rework; should be 2-3 days. They're gonna have their BASF paint rep bring out a "paint scanner", which I guess photos a factory panel for a better match - sounds promising.

Cool, stoked! The shop called and had me come down to inspect a sample - looks **** close - as close as I think they could get.

Turns out, there was a small quantity of black out of the 12 sub-colors, which when left out made for a perfect match; crazy! And that black was in the factory code and came out of the photo analyzer. He said it may have been just a few drops of this black to make it too dark first round. Here's the sample card I shook on

Thx JiveFive - yep, jacka$$ will get theirs!!

Got it back and happy I had them redo it. It is not perfect but it is better - I'd say 95%!

What is interesting, is that on obe side the bumper does match as well as the other still but you know what ... the paint on the rear quarter on one side is lighter from the factory! Go figure, lol

Anyway, sorry for the overcast photo here but it is back
