Bulb Fitment Question

I would like to upgrade my factory bulbs for the headlights and foglights to either Hoen, PIAA, Hella or Silverstars.

It appears that for the 2010/11 Mustang, I would need the following bulbs:

H13 aka 9008 for the headlights
9145 for the fog lights (in main grille)

Does anyone else have replaced their bulbs with different bulb numbers? I rmember on my truck it was calling for the 9145 I believe, but replaced them with 9007's, where were brighter, but had the same connector.

Any thoughts?

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the H10 and H11 bulb?

This is directly from Silvania's website, which shows the FOG light bulbs as follows:

Fog/Driving light
9145
9145ST SilverStar: The brighter and whiter light. Up to 35% brighter, up to 30% more downroad visibility and up to 35% more sideroad visibility.
H11
H11SU SilverStar Ultra: The brightest and whitest light. Up to 50% brighter, up to 40% more downroad visibility and up to 50% more sideroad visibility.
H11ST SilverStar: The brighter and whiter light. Up to 35% brighter, up to 30% more downroad visibility and up to 35% more sideroad visibility.
H11XV XtraVision: The brighter light for upgraded performance. Up to 30% brighter light and up to 25% more downroad visibility.

So can I assume that the 9145 bulb (which is currently installed) will have the same base as the H11?

Thanks

The H11 is the V6 Fog light Bulb and the 9145 is the GT bulb.
But you are right, a lot of people over on the truck site I moderate on used the 9007 because no one had a good 9145 bulb out for a long time, it needed to have 1 of the lock tabs modified to fit, but it is a High Beam bulb and you will probably get high beams flashed at you using them in the fogs in the grill.

I actually went to the local auto parts store today and did some browsing in the bulb section.

The H11 will definitely NOT fit the GT fog lamps due to different pole locations, although the size of the bulb appears the same.

The closest I could find similar to the 9145 (H10) bulb is the 9005 bulb, which is the same size, has the same connectors/poles and has the same center groove. The only thing I'm concerned about is, that the 9005 bulbs are rated at 65W vs. 45W on the 9145... and I really don't want to melt my fog light housings.

Anyone running 9005 in their fog lights?

Those are the ones they were running, 9005 in the fogs, not the 9007.

Thanks Ken... I was actually thinking of just getting some 9005's and trying them, but I don't want to waist $40 for nothing, plus possible melting my fog light housings...

Never hurts to do some research first...

NP Andy, I never had to worry, I had H1's in my 2003 STX so I don't know the extra heat issues with the high beam bulbs in the fogs, but it did seam that a lot were running them until Sylvania came out with the 9145 Silver Star bulbs.
