Yup your build date is scheduled to 8/2 and will be coming by rail car when it ships.

 

Technically unless your dealer is within 250 miles of AAI, all cars ship by rail car. Then they get within 250 miles of your dealer and ship by auto transport.

ie. When it is released for shipping do I park it in the rail lot or the truck lot?

 

Interesting. Is that random or is it just a certain rail yard's cars are delivered to it by a truck?

 

I was unable to track through CSX ... you have to be a customer of theirs to track, shipping your stuff through them from what I was able to find out. I believe you can track through a few other rail companies though if your car gets transferred to one of them from CSX.

I just pestered my sales guy. He gave me the rail car number but I was unable to do anything with it so I just had him keep me updated. He wasn't the most proactive caller either, I would ask once a week for an update, and called Ford CS once. My sales guy didn't want to tell me that the car was sitting in Atlanta for 4-5 days before it finally got shipped to Cayce, SC, where the carrier picked it up. He figured I would have tried driving to Atlanta to get it hahaha. He wasn't even the one to tell me that my car was arriving on 7/15 - I just happened to go by the dealer on a Thursday and inquire if it'd be there Saturday or Monday (two diff ETAs I received) and they said "oh tonight at 7:30" Never told them -I- drove it off the truck

Would have been nice to get that extra $500 off they are offering now, but for the near-invoice price we got I couldn't be happier getting it in under 6 weeks from order. Feel bad for all those who've been waiting forever!

 

You can track your car via CSX but it cannot be done online unless you're a CSX customer account. For those without accounts, you have to call their automated phone line by calling 877-744-7279, x5, x3.

The rail yard is right at the plant. The "250 mile" radius is somewhat variable as well. If you have a larger dealer order that would merit a special truck trip then they will do it.

 

My sticker says my car is being shipped convoy... though I live like 600 miles from AAI. The dealership I bought it at is not very big and has only had 1 GT this entire time, I think they did say they are getting a GT500 in as well (told me they had allocation for it when my car got allocation). Is it possible they can do multiple dealers on the same truck?

Yes, a single truck can drop off at multiple dealers.

And James, that looks right. The key with CSX is just to use their voice response system. It works very well. I think I had 2 calls a day to that line for 4-5 days.

 

Jeez, I wish I knew about that when I was waiting on mine after it was shipped! They told me it couldn't be done because of security issues. Pfft. Though I think I was obsessive enough as it was in the time between order & delivery

 

I completely understand. I would have done anything to get info while I waited 18 weeks for mine. Glad it's here now though!

 

So true.. I won't be able to track my car since it's coming convoy but I'll live. I wonder if this will cut off some delay from switching rail cars and all that mess that people have seen. Or it might not matter since they are gonna be stopping at other dealerships.

 

Christie -- ignore that "CONVOY" crap on the PDF window sticker. You're in KY. The car is coming from MI. It's coming via train. Bet on it.
