Brakes

I ordered my new 5.0 on 6/4. I just found out my VIN number today and that it won't be built until 7/18. Due to some personal reasons, this time frame just does not work for me, and I'm thinking that I might try and find a stock ordered car, and might also need to opt out of the brembo brake package in order to do this. Does anyone here know what the brembos feel like as opposed to the stock brakes in everyday, city 0-40, stop and go traffic? Is there more response? Does it take away that "sponge feel" or am I wasting my time and money for the maybe 3-4 times that I'll ever take the car to the track during ownership?

Good question and I wonder what the replacment cost difference is for the brembros when it's time for new brakes.

By taking it to the track, do you mean a road race track with you running multiple laps on a tight course requiring a lot of braking?

That would be the only circumstances where the brembos would be much of an advantage.

Do you know why the build date is so far out? Just wondering if it has to do with dealer allocation

No, not autocross, real track day events. And the dealership claims that they are the "largest ford dealer in Arizona". I don't wanna bother with it if it's gonna take over 8 weeks to deliver, I know that sounds ridiculous to the guys who ordered in March, but I have work/school and I'm not 25 yet so I can't rent a car. There is a GT/CS fully loaded in NY where I am right now for a few weeks, it has pretty much everything I wanted and more, (not the brembos obviously), and it's LESS money. Tucson, AZ sales tax is 9.1%! Think I might just jump the gun on this one fellas, what's your input?

Can you register a NY purchased car in AZ?

Thought CA. border states cars had to get the CA emissions package?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but won't stainless steel brake lines help that spongy feel?
Does anyone know if the Brembo package come with ss brake lines?

Yes you absolutely can. The Governator creates many regulations that other states don't abide by.

Spongy feel?

No spongy feel in the 2010 base car I test drove, doubt the 2011 has any spongy feel no matter which brakes.

No SS brake hoses from the factory.

Nothing to do with CA laws, has to do with the Feds.

For me, the Brembo brakes felt a slight bit stiffer than the normal brakes but not a whole lot different during regular driving. The stock brakes felt great. The Brembos just don't fade anywhere near as fast during track use. They aren't perfect they are just an upgrade.

That said, if you are going to track it just go a head and get the Brembos, you will probably be happier in the end.
If you are not super competitive then the stock stoppers are great as is. Better than necessary for every day driving.
