Bought GT500 muffler on AmericanMuscle.com and I'm confused.....
Hello everyone this was my first purchase from AmericanMuscle.com. So the box came in today and there's no indication if it's a GT500 muffler or not. I searched the numbers on the muffler and couldn't find anything. here's the number (F1-8214-R)
One more and more important, it seems as though it's used. Now I know a used muffler won't make a difference, but why did I just pay FULL PRICE for a used product????? There's a billion scratches and marks on it! I'm confused! Anyone else experience this? I won't buy from them again if this is the case!

I know the OE mufflers aren't pretty, a buddy of mine bought some of the same GT500 mufflers from the dealership and they looked used to me too. The welds are rusty and the front looks burned but all of that cleans up with an sos pad. We also painted the case with black high temp paint and they disappear nicely under the back. AM is a great company to deal with and would be fair to say they aren't used just from experience.

I'm pretty sure the number(8214) that you posted is correct for the GT500 mufflers.
As far as the condition of the muffler, I think its just because they are a mass produced and are not made perfect.
The factory GT mufflers on my 2014 looked horrible when I got the car and they only had 38 miles on them. They had white oxidation plus rust spots. Tips also had scratches on them. I wouldn't worry about it unless the muffler is not intact or something.

Pics please. I got a set of GT500 mufflers from AM in December. I know they aren't used, but I second what others have said. Lots of weld marks, and scratches. Only the tips look clean, and that's the only thing that maters!
For ~$300 and the sound you get, I think it's OK if the rest of the muffler is not stainless perfection, you know what I mean? It's really just the tips that need to be shiny.

no the tips look good. The rest of the muffler looks used. I will post pics tomorrow. I don't care that they look the way they look since the tip is the most important "look" aspect, what im upset about is the fact that I think I paid full price for something used. It totally looks like they welded on new tips on old mufflers. I will show pics tomorrow. If I wanted used mufflers I wouldve saved money and bought on craigslist...

I would agree that they are not used but rather, mass produced, and not meant to be 'pretty'. These things will look like crap a day after running them in the rain, so don't worry if they don't look perfect out of the box. If you bought polished tips and they were scratched and rusted, different story.

I wouldnt worry about the marks on the muffler itself unless there are dents etc. Even my Magnaflow's had some marking on the muffler itself. But the tips were wrapped in paper and then bubble wrapped and were perfect.

Mine arrived with the tips enclosed in cardboard cylinders to protect them.
The junction of the tips & muffler weld definitely needed some solvent and a steel wool pad to clean it up to look respectable.
No scratches on the mufflers though.
A great power sound and NO drone at steady speeds. Family car quiet at highway speeds. Excellent engineering!

They aren't finished as well as Borlas or Magneflow but that's why they cost about half as much. I got mine from AM and the tip on one of the mufflers was dented because it cut through both boxes during shipment. I don't really blame AM for this - FR isn't packaging them well enough. Fortuently, I had a set of body mollies and it was easy to straighten it out so it isn't even noticeable. The important thing is they sound great.
