This, if the gears are correctly manufactured then it comes down to properly setting backlash.

3.73 feels like crap in my current setup. I was told that I wouldn't feel a difference if I went with a 4.10. I think my best bet is to go with a 4.30. Am I understanding this correctly? This transmission is actuality slowing my car down? If I were to dyno my Stang with the Mt82 and compare it with a dyno with the Tr6060 the numbers would be higher with the Mt82?

you'll make the same amount of power as long as you dyno both transmissions in whatever is 1:1 gear.

Ok its not the transmission itself that is slowing your car down, but it sounds like you didnt research the transmissions very closely.

What your feeling

The ratios are VERY different between the two boxes and the ratios of the 6060 are better suited for the huge amount of torque the GT-500 puts out.
So basically you took away a lot of the mechanical advantage so your car is actually slower with this trans due to gear ratios.

Please note the gear ratio differences below:

not true.

There will be a slight difference in power loss through the two transmissions (think like 1-2%) so unless your dynoing on the same day with both transmissions dynoing to find the diff your wasting your time and money.

Ok, I can take a 1-2 % power loss for this swap. I will have Fi later on anyway but for now. I'm thinking a 4.30 would help it a lot. Wouldn't it?

There may be some sort of online calculator or formula you can use but I'm sure you can somehow plug in the rear end gear ratio you want to use with the 6060 internal gear ratios and see how similar it would be to the MT82 with whatever gears you have now.

if your plan is forced induction later you need to plan for that. 4.30 on a blown coyote is going to = crazy wheel spin, wasted time changing gears and wasted power.

if you notice the stock GT-500 has a 3.55 and the Shelby guys have found that the 3.73 is great "aggressive gear" your power levels will be strikingly similar to a GT-500 (either stock or modded depending on how crazy you get).

If you are going FI then keep the 3.73's if you are not going FI and you want an aggressive gear then use the 4.30 or maybe even a 4.56.

If you have 100 dollar bills to light on fire then go to the 4.30's now and change back when you find out its way too much gear for the FI car. The torque provided by the forced induction is wasted if your just running through gears quickly and requiring gear changes. NA and FI are VERY different animals and what works for one is not always what’s best (or even a good idea) for the other.

(fyi super crazy FI cars use rear gear ratios all the way down in the low 3.0 range and even into the 2.75 range!)

I've looked into that but I don't know what the gear ratios are on this particular TR6060 because it isn't stock.

Thanks!

For forced induction my 3.73 would be perfect. I'd only have to shift three times in the 1/4 mile LOL.

I'm staying naturally aspirated right now since my 5.0 blew and I had to spend money on a 12 Boss 302 short block swap.

I'm thinking 4.30 for now and if it works out I keep it and not go to a 4.56. Later on when I go FI I'll swap back to the 3.73.

I'm able to get the gear plus install done by a professional shop threw one of my friends for under $400.

Ford racing 4.30.

Will I be able to notice a big difference between the 3.73 and 4.30?

With the 3.73 if I were to do a 40 roll I'd have to be in first. It revs that low lol.

Im still waiting on the block and hardware needed for the install to all come in. More then likely gonna take it in to Blue collar Performance for the block swap.

Any recommendations?

D and D Performance , I bought it from my friend who bought it from DD performance. He said the ratios are different on it. Not sure what they are.

After cobbling all this different stuff together, you should call it Frankenstang when you get it finished.

You guys are about 1 hour away from me. I'd really like that though when I'm in the area I will let you know.
What would you guys charge for a swap like this? How many block swaps have you guys done?

Thanks

thats easy, its just a matter of multiplying the trans gear by the diff gear to get the final drive next divide the numerically higher final drive by the numerically lower drive to get the multiplier you need to reach an equivalent final drive then take the diff gear and use the multiplier

for example;

Transmission A) 3.00 1st x 3.73 diff = 11.19
Tranmisssion B) 2.00 1st x 3.73 diff = 7.46

11.19 / 7.46 = 1.5 x 3.73 diff = 5.595

2.00 x 5.595 = 11.19 if your checking your work.
