MT82 w/ 3.73 gears

3.66 x 3.73 = 13.65
2.43 x 3.73 = 9.06
1.69 x 3.73 = 6.30
1.32 x 3.73 = 4.92
1.00 x 3.73 = 3.73
0.65 x 3.73 = 2.42

TR6060 w/ 3.73 gears

2.97 x 3.73 = 11.08
1.78 x 3.73 = 6.64
1.30 x 3.73 = 4.85
1.00 x 3.73 = 3.73
0.80 x 3.73 = 2.98
0.63 x 3.73 = 2.35
Okay in order to get close to the MT82 You would need a 4.56 final drive

TR6060 w/4.56 gears

2.97 x 4.56 = 13.54
1.78 x 4.56 = 8.12
1.30 x 4.56 = 5.93
1.00 x 4.56 = 4.56
0.80 x 4.56 = 3.65
0.63 x 4.56 = 2.87
Final Drive comparison

MT82/ TR6060/ Loss/Gain in Torque

13.65/13.54 = 11 ft/lbs
9.06/ 8.12 = 94 ft/lbs
6.30/ 5.93 = 37 ft/lbs
4.92/ 4.56 = 36 ft/lbs
3.73/ 3.65 = 8 ft/lbs
2.42/ 2.87 = 45 ft/lbs

The loss/gain thing was just simply multiplying out by 100 ft/lbs. This is also strictly a comparison between ratios and doesn't account for operating losses due to differences in mass and friction. The M82 has a lower torque rating and that might very well carry through as an increase in effciency due to lighter parts or the difference might be negligible?

As a good friend would have once put it, that 2nd gear is a ****!

However as you can see in every gear besides 6th, the TR6060 in your car wouldn't appreciably effect the RPM range you were used to operating in with the MT82 and your looking at about an 16% increase in 6th gear crusing speed otherwise every other gear will actually be a bit lower than with the MT82 (well except for 2nd gear)

The bad obviously is the loss of torque and conversely HP from 2nd to 5th gear, however your combo wont force an early gear change in 2nd gear since the TR6060 is so long winded (suited to a car that has 480-510 ft/lbs) and that may or may not be an advantage at the track since having to shift from 2nd to 3rd will in most cases slow the car down for a little bit.

I suppose some bolt on mods+tune would make up most of the difference against an otherwise stock GT, however there is really nothing you can do against that 2nd gear except to see if somebody has a a way to gear the TR6060 the same way in 2nd gear or gear the TR6060 in a method that more closely approximates the MT82, otherwise some sort of supercharging or nitrous would be your best friend from a power point and thats probably how I would tackle the MT82/TR6060 issue - play to the strengths of the TR6060 and just increase power by a whole heluva lot.

BTW, to even up 2nd gear, you would have to run a 5.09 final gear ratio if they made such a beast and it would really shorten up things in every other gear.

Isn't it good that it doesn't work that way on the torque loss.

And I thought the TR6060 in question was a .50 6th gear...

these are some mph numbers spit out by a gearing calculator based on 245/45/19 tires and speed at 7k redline, bob is right on about the 4.56s assuming the gear ratios in your TR6060 are what he posted

MT82 w/3.73 - 42 64 91 117 155 238 61mph = 1800rpm

TR6060 w/3.73 - 52 87 119 155 193 245 60mph = 1700rpm

TR6060 w/4.10 - 47 79 108 141 176 223 61mph = 1900rpm

TR6060 w/4.30 - 45 75 103 134 168 213 61mph = 2000rpm

TR6060 w/4.56 - 43 71 97 126 158 201 60mph = 2100rpm

Very informative thanks so much. This trans isn't stock it's built and I'm not sure what the ratios are. The 1 and 2 synchros are made out of a stronger material then stock too. I don't know how to figure out what the ratios are but when the car is running 100% I'll figure it out. 4.10 or 4.30. I'll keep you guys posted... I really appreciate it

First gear with the MT-82 and 3.73's is really too short to be of much use. The car can pull from a dead stop in 2nd without any effort at all. You probably don't need to go to 4.56, unless you are planning to do drags in slicks.

The other consideration is that the factory driveshaft is designed for 155mph with a 3.73 rear end (~7500 shaft RPM). Going to a shorter rear gear will put you into more risky territory if you plan on running near the top speed of the car.

I have a Tr6060 not the MT82... I have a Shaftmasters Aluminum Driveshaft.

Check engine codes. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I know I'm losing power under 4k RPMs. Over 4k RPM the car is fast. Wonder what it is. I disconnected the ERA and it's still throwing the same codes.

Looks like the electronic controls for your variable cam timing is not functioning at all. Was any of that wiring messed with during the swap? Anything left unplugged etc...?

My referencing the MT-82 was in respect to the post suggesting using 4.56 gears to match the 1st gear overall ratio.

Shaftmasters is also limited to 7500 RPM (shaft speed), so the upper speed limit still applies.

No one was suppose to touch any of the wires that aren't connected to the trans. Maybe one of the wires got pinched? I'm not sure.

Which wire should I be looking at?

Thanks so much!

Did a shop do the work. I can't believe all the problems your running into. Shocked it's still running. Hope you get it fixed soon. With a trans swap I wouldn't think you would have problem with engine sensors.

correct, VVT is not functioning, the reason you get power above 4k is where the cams are designed to get power, below that they rely on the VVT to make power. I would check and make sure all the plugs are pluged in and ground wires(if the have any) are properly grounded.. The shop that did the install should have done all of this if they were any good..

Can't remember off the top of my head where they all plug in but check all around the engine. Also check near the plugs for the computer and make sure they didn't do anything there. Circuit open codes only happen when something is left unplugged or a wire is cut really. That is far more likely than all 4 of your VCT solenoids being no good.

What i would look up and see what plugs are actually on the transmission.. This would clear up allot of speculation. It could be that the cam sensors rely on something from the transmission, which is unlikely, but the grounds could be common. Research the 5.0 engine control pack that ford has in Ford Racing. maybe they could shed some light on the subject.

Quick Reply: Bought a built Tr6060,MGW Shifter and clutch for my 12 5.0!
