Best Tires

I'm planning on changing my wheels very soon but I'm wondering what the best tires would be. I don't track my car and it only gets driven on the weekends. I like to drive it aggressively sometimes when I do. I'd like 275s all around. Any opinions?

Pilot Sport 2s are the quintessential sports car tire. I don't think you could go wrong with those.

That said, a "best" tire is a very open discussion. You'll get a ton of opinions on that.

"Best" depends on your intentions. What do you mean by "drive it aggressively"? Accelerate in straight line? Clip corners?

How are they working for you? I really want to upgrade to a set but due to he staggered fitment, I've got to step up to 20's in order to try them.

Just a head's up on Falkens, I had a friend at a dealer tell me that they've been having problems with them lately. A lot of people claiming the tires pull to one side or another. I myself have gone through 3 sets of Falken Ziex-912's, and my current set seems to pull to one side. Had it alligned and balanced and all that jazz. Same setup with some Bridgestone Potenzas drives straight, so I've narrowed it down to the tire. This is on a Mitsubishi but a tire is a tire.

Well I'd say mostly straight line acceleration, but getting on on ramps and such sometimes ill take it quickly. Regardless I want grip to be there, available.

In general, it sounds like summer performance tires would apply to your use case. Folks here have made a number of sound recommendations based on their experiences.

How much tire life do you expect to get out of them? Have you ever shopped at Tire Rack (www.tirerack.com)?

Don't have them yet but based on all my research it's the tire I'll be using with my RTR's when I make that step. Their treadwear is rated at 300 so the sidewalls aren't as soft as some tires but you'll have plenty of grip. They're rated at 30,000 miles but I doubt I'll get 15K out of them due to how I drive. Also, they're a (Y) speed rating so they can handle any MPH you throw at them.

To me, once you get to 20" and above with these tires is that some are speed rated at (Y) and some are Z speed rated which means 149+ MPH. Kind of goofy in my opinion because every single other tire is speed rated at (Y). I've always found the Z speed rating a littler different but that's just me.

It is my understanding that the treadwear rating was an indicator of how long they would last, not stiffness of the sidewall. I thought sidewall stiffness was related to its height.

You might be right. Either way, they'll perform just fine.

I just want to say "Hi, I'm the new guy!".
I figured I'd toss in my 2cents.

This article is over a year old, but it has a pretty nice list of tires that were tested...

I've put this tire on mine- good overall performance tire, not top of the line but holds it's own.
