Anybody remember the name of the road Ford let the press drive during the press event for the 5.0 and 3.7?
I think it was near Port Hueneme....
That wasn't Mulholland Drive was it? Sorry if someone already answered and I missed it.

Thanks James you're right. I found this
The actual test drive began at the Marina Del Ray near Los Angeles then up Pacific Coast Hwy to Port Hueneme for the autocross then through canyon after canyon back to Marina del Rey for lunch then back up Pac Coast Hwy to Malibu Canyon Rd, to Cold Canyon Rd, Mulholland Hwy, Topanga Canyon then back down CA-1 to Marina del Ray. The course was chosen to give us a chance to see how these new engines/transmissions/brakes/suspensions worked together to create a unique driving experience.

Looks like you've been down that road before Chris. it is indeed a beautiful ride in the Green Mountains (VT) and the Adhirondacs ( N-Y). I bicycled ( yes, bicycle with two pedals) in these mountains as well as all of New-England numerous times. The back roads are just amazing, scenery is breathless. I've also done ( bicycled) Chicago-New-Orleans and all of the East Coast, but my friends that is another story.

From Wikipedia: Sociologist Lewis Mumford, who often criticized the effect of superhighway construction on contemporary cities, always advised friends traveling up from New York to visit him at his house in Amenia that they should take the Taconic to do so.[14] He described it as "a consummate work of art, fit to stand on a par with our loftiest creations".[15] The engineers, he said, had avoided "brutal assaults against the landscape". Albany-born novelist William Kennedy, whose family frequently drove the Taconic during his childhood to visit relatives further south, calls it "a 110-mile postcard. It's the most beautiful road I've ever known — in all seasons". "You can drive it with confidence", says automotive writer David E. Davis. "There are no bad surprises about the way the road is engineered."
Tiorati Road in Harriman State Park is a hidden gem. Very technical.

Blue Ridge Parkway from Roanoke, VA to Asheville, NC. Also, Hwy 12 on the Outer Banks, NC, from Ocracoke to Salvo/Rodanthe.

Blue Ridge Parkway is what I'll be hitting too after I've broken it (and me) in some. Planning to finally hit the full length.

Here's one I'm planning soon for my car and the motorcycle:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...8&ie=UTF8&z=11

And theres so much more towards Prarie View, Navasota, Conroe area... I'm gonna figure out a couple on the east side of Houston soon too.

Hill country/Piney woods is definitely NOT flat and long straights... .

Tryin' to figure out a 'east side' one, but haven't... yet.

It's been mentioned, but the Black Hills in SD are amazing!

Going to the Sun Rd in Glacier National Park (MT) is also incredible.

I'm throwing my vote in for the outerloop of the DC beltway at the 270 spur. Lovely, scenic, and it seems like the road goes on forever (because you never move).

Hey vettdreamin, I'm a MD guy looking for a good cruising spot outside of the hellhole of traffic that is the DC beltway. Anyplace around here good for a weekend drive?

Man, there are some pretty rides posted on here! I also have to add the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway.

LOTS of places around (I'll use that loosely) DC, believe it or not!

For short drives:
Try Georgetown Pike from the beltway to Great Falls (and then enjoy Great Falls, VA for an hour or so)
Try Snickersville Pike (not kidding) off Rt. 7 to Rt. 50
Try GW Parkway from Mt. Vernon to Old Town Alexandria

A little farther, definitely try Rt. 211 between Sperryville and Luray (and stop for a drive on Skyline Drive along the way -- southbound you'll find Skyland (highest point in the Shenandoah Valley) and Big Meadow). Frequent deer and occasional bear sightings along the way. Rt. 522 between Front Royal and Sperryville is also quite good.

Take I-66 to exit 13 and head West on Rt. 55 to Front Royal and then 340 to the Skyline Drive entrance. Take that down to Rt. 211 and head back to Sperryville to 522 then back to Front Royal again for a nice circuit.

I think it's Tiorati Brook Rd.?

The whole system is here, too. Very cool: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Lakes_Drive

As a teenager, I learned to drive on curvy switchbacks in these hills.
