You can probably order it as a part, but I have not seen anywhere that it is plug an play, as in the base car has the connections behind the wheel for the audio controls. If anyone finds this out, weather it be yea or nea, please post.

Yet it is not an option 99.9% of us can get (until someone gets a part number, etc) since most of us are not fleet customers.

Don't like the Bullitt steering wheel that a lot of us have? Made a world of difference in my Mustang. It was the first modification I did to mine, just a week or two after I brought it home. I hated my stock cheap plastic wheel too.

Has anyone even looked for the 18R wheel at the part counter?

Guys help me out here what is the difference between the premium 2011 wheel and the GT 500 wheel is it only the suede inserts ? thats all I can see. I was thinking about switching to the GT 500 wheel but if the only difference is 4 little suede patches on the wheel I'm not doing it. A friend of mine can supposedly get the wheel for 250.00 for me but I rather spend that on my battery charger and car cover for the winter.

It's the same thing as the Grant ones, only it says "ROUSH" at the top of the wheel in leather.

The GT500 has the same button layout as the Premium steering wheel, but has different stitching (white vs GB or cashmere) and the Alcantara patches and thumbswells.

Someone on this board broke down the cost for the 18R wheel in another thread, but they did not include part numbers

Not to mention that the parts total up to $486

These are the parts needed, apparently it is not sold as complete unit.....

18R Leather Wheel
R/H Switch
L/H Switch
Lt Bezel
Rt Bezel
Center Bezel

From that list you should be able to re-use the switches from the original wheel.

Of course depending on how uh, how should I say it, how shady you are, there is always the rental Mustang swap...

The switches on the base wheel are completely different than the 18R wheel, so they will not work in the new wheel. They can be reused in a Bullitt wheel install, however.

True, the rental option is always out there

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2011 V6 BASE model ( NO options, other than A/T), and was able to re-use my 2007 GT500 wheel! What I did was CAREFULLY pry around the cruise switches, and they popped right out. The wheel has a small "lip" that overlaps the outer rim of the switch assembly, and I performed this when the wheel was warm, on a sunny day. These switches have two pins, appx. 3/8 inch thick, that locate on the spokes of the wheel. Not only this worked perfectly, the connector on the clockspring was correct, and the black/red stitch works PERFECTLY with my car (race red, black interior)! Best of all, the new switches now glow blue, rather than green!!!! Sorry, I don't have photos to post, but if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at svt2tops@comcast.net. Hope this helps.
Pat

The early GT500 wheel is the same wheel as the Bullitt wheel many of us have used, except for the stitching. In some of the other steering wheel threads there are pics and instructions detailing the installs. Seems like the early GT500 or the Bullitt wheels are still probably the best options.

Or if you don't give a crap about the airbag you could just get a sparco wheel.
