It was a last minute decision for me to bump up to the Premium. I planned on ordering the base version all along since I did not want leather. But in the end, I realized I would be living with this car a while, and really needed the bluetooth. I liked the steering wheel and the ambient lighting. It hurt paying that much more since I did not want the leather, but I am happy with my final decision. I did not want to go aftermarket for these items like the above poster (which I would have if I got the base model), and could afford the option. I really wish Ford split up the leather from the rest of the package.

Interestingly enough, they used to before MY 2009.
My GT has cloth seats with leather steering wheel and My Color dash etc.
I guess Ford decided there just weren't enough people like us to continue with it.

I think it was before 2008. Ford really changed things around between 2005 and 2009, with a lot of changes every year or two. My 2008 GT for example is a "Premium" with leather seats, but has the cheap plastic steering wheel (like the 2011 base cars) and no MyColor dash. I replaced the cheap plastic wheel with the Bullitt one as shown earlier in this thread.

I'd really like to have a Premium '11+ GT with cloth interior or a base GT with MyColor and steering wheel stereo controls, but if I were to trade up today, I'd be getting a base GT and swap my Bullitt steering wheel into the new one. I'd take the cloth seats over the rest of the Premium gadgets since I'd have to choose.

Good example but...
This was the 2009 change:
Premium Interior (formerly Interior Upgrade Package)
.
Before that you could get the IUP with the base or not with the premium.
You right about the changes, that is why I HAD to get a 2006.

I would really only want the S500 and the premium steering wheel. I can do without leather and plan on switching out the gauge cluster with a Saleen one, might add ambient lighting but who knows.

I don't know why you can't get HIDs with the base though.

It's a good thing it is so easy and (relatively) inexpensive to replace with a better one.

I have a base 2011 ordered. The 3k upgrade was ridiculous to me for what I got. I ordered my 06 Deluxe with one option the dark charcoal int upgrade. Was just what I wanted got the nice steering wheel, MY color, dark charcoal dash, accents etc. That upgrade I think was around $450. I will order an 2011 GT500 steering wheel and customize the int that I want. I thinks its a rip for the upcharge to have a nice steering wheel and int.

I have heard rumors that the cheap plastic steering wheel is going away for the 2012 base model GT, but nothing concrete has been confirmed yet. Hopefully.

That would be nice.

Gotta wonder why Ford even bothered with multiple styles of steering wheels other than with or without audio controls.

All you guys that do a mod on your car and simply post a picture with zero info telling us what you did- please stop. Just a quick blurp on what you did or where you got the part so others don't have then post asking about your last post and wait for your reply.

cinque35- What did you do with your wheel- take it to an upholstery shop and get it covered or did you find the rim from a donor car?
Leather or vinyl?
Approx cost?

That is all we need to spark the imagination of all who read this...

Thanks!!

Posted on several other threads..

It's a new '09 Bullitt wheel, cost $360 and worth it. (The 05-09 Premium wheel will work too).
The airbag and cruse buttons are reused from the '10 base wheel.

I have this wheel. I love it. Alcantara/leather.

They raised the price about $50 since I bought it 2 months ago. =[ Quite possibly the best mod on my car; aside from LCAs.

Do the steering wheel audio controls work with the base stereo, or are they dead?

Here are a few more pics to help you decide

Here is the base wheel

Here is base interior with 09 Bullitt wheel (my car)

Like Cinque said, you have to replace the buttons (from the stock 11 wheel) with the older (Bullitt or GT500) wheel. The connectors are new in the 11.

No audio controls don't work so if you get the GT500 wheel only the cruse control with work. That one of the reason i when with the bullitt wheel in my car it has the same button as the base GT wheel and if you sell the car down the road in a few years you don't have to tell the people that are buying it why the other buttons on the wheel don't work.

They don't work. It needs the SYNC control module.
