Back in a Mustang after some time on the Corvette side

Just traded in my '13 Corvette Grand Sport for a 2014 Mustang GT.
Had a 2011 GT three years ago, on which I had all sorts of stuff done.
Bullitt steering wheel, California Special fascia and Boss splitter, GT500 spoiler, GT500 axle back.

After all that...I was still lured away to a used 2006 Corvette.
Then after a year, a 2013 Corvette.

But now back to another GT.
Bare bones, only auto and the Brembo brake package (which I couldn't get with an auto back in '11)
The mods are already starting, though.
I ordered a GT500 axle back, and the dealer is installing when it arrives later this week.
I wanted to wait to pick it up after they had the new exhaust installed, but I couldn't resist. I had to drive it home.
Sounds pretty mean, even stock.
I'm hoping the new exhaust won't be too much.
On my '11 the GT500 axle back sounded just right.

Anyone want my stock GT exhaust?

What made you go back from a Grand Sport? Was the new C7 anywhere on your radar?

Since the Wifey has the Mustang, I was able to hang onto my '07 Vette. The C7 is certainly on my radar, but the Wifey's spidey powers can see right through me. If I can get my stealth mode working it's gonna be "Katie bar the Door".

The Mustangs a beauty brother JP, but I'm guessing your gonna be looking for another Vette soon. It's like a genetic defect. Until then though, enjoy.

I also debated C5 Z06, C6 Grandsport (cause of dry sump) and the Mustang. I think I would have been happy in any of them, but the affordability of the Mustang was unbeatable.

Hope you enjoy your '14. Last model year cars are always the best! If you have any gripes about the Brembo's, put a set of street/track pads on like Hawk HP Plus and you'll instantly love them. I was quite unimpressed by the OEM Brembo pads, but with upgraded pads the pedal feel is awesome and stopping power is excellent too. And they'll never overheat for street driving. Can't say the same for track driving, but guessing you don't do track days (automatic)

I work in the auto industry, and I did a lot of my driver's training on a C5 Z06. Also got to work on the C6, and the C6 Z06 as well. I love those cars. My personal land speed record is 184mph in a C6 Z06 on a closed course.

The affordability of the Mustang is what made me go Ford route. Corvettes are stellar vehicles though. Got to give respect where respect is due.

Welcome back!
I admit, Vettes are nice. My buddy has an '06 C6 with a supercharger.
Vettes also handle like they're on freakin rails!

But for me, nothin beats the sound of a Ford 5.0, even stock!

Welcome back to the Stang community. I was looking at the Vette when I was scoping things out for a new car. I just couldn't get past the interior compared to the Mustang.

I traded in my 2006 C6 for my GT. It was fun, but it was a base model, with mods, and an auto. I bought it new, just got tired of the black paint, stereo, no blue tooth, rock magnet etc.

Thanks, all.
Had to lessen the financial load a bit, after recently buying a new house.

I watched the new Stingray debut in January, and I thought, "Dang, it IS the Jalopnik Corvette.
Wasn't a fan since Jalopnik leaked their pictures back in late '11.

So, I went out and bought the '13 back in February.
Loved it, knew those 325 series tires were going to be expensive to replace, but didn't care at the time.
7 months and 10,000 daily driving miles later, they were ready to be replaced.
By 10 months and 14,000 miles they were definitely past their expiration date.

So, instead of popping for new tires, I traded it in.
Before we bought the new house, I had finally seen my first Stingray at the local dealer. All black. I got caught up in the hype, and was actually thinking of trading up to a C7.
Even the rear end, which I can't stand, looked better in black.

But we got our new home, and I decided it was time to be more fiscally responsible.
I had it down to a loaded V6 Camaro, and this base V8 Mustang.
Both same price.
One drive in the Mustang, and that was it.

Last night, I got out and walked around it in the dark.
The taillights look amazing.
The Corvette team tried to rationalize their decisions for creating those ugly C7 taillights. They stressed the "3D" aspect and indirect LED technology.
Blah, blah, blah, they are still UGLY!
Besides...Mustang did all that first!

Any regrets about Mustang vs C5 Z or C6 Z in respect to tracking it? I've been impressed I have been able to hang with a fairly well driven C5 Z, and I've heard they are a bit twitchy at the limit... Just curious

To the OP, again welcome and enjoy!!

Well, to be perfectly honest I haven't pushed my own Mustang as hard as I've been able to push Vettes (not my tires lol). So there is more I can get out of my Mustang for sure. But... A to B comparison, the Vette is more of a track monster. A well driven C5 Z or a C6Z compared to a well driven Mustang GT in a no contest based on my experience.
As for twitchyness, I learned to drift circles and figure eight's on a Corvette. I also got to Autocross a vette. Sitting just ahead of the rear tires gives you better feedback I think. They ARE twitchy, but it is predictable and controllable once I got used to it. And it took me 2 days to drive the Vette at 99% of it's vMax, and steer with the throttle.
But when I look at if for MY money, is the Vette worth extra $20K? No. The mustang is 85+% of the performance for 70% of the money.

OP, what do you think?

I really enjoy my 2010 Mustang GT. Don't drive it as much as I want to or as much as my son says I should. But I wanted a Grabber Blue Mustang Mach 1 since 1970. So when Ford brought back Grabber Blue in the Mustang I had to get one. I sold my old 73 Corvette which I had had for 10+years to get a new and reliable fun car. Now with Ford switching to the Fustang I am looking at a C7, probably a 2015, in case I 'need' a replacement.

After my first week in the Mustang, I think you are right on with that comment.

The Mustang has been putting just as many smiles on my face as the Corvette did, maybe even a few more since I can comfortably afford the Mustang where the Corvette was a stretch.

Sound:
Even though the Corvette had the dual mode exhaust, you had to really get on it to make it open up. (didn't have the "mild to wild" switch).
Even when it did, the Mustang (now with the GT500's) has got it beat.
Exactly how a V8 should sound. All the time.

Pull:
Haven't gone WOT yet in the Mustang.
The Vette's probably got it here by a bit, but I've got no complaints at all with how the Coyote pulls.

Handling:
Corvette's also got this. And it should since it was riding on 285's in the front and 325's in the rear.
Mustang seems a little tall.

Look:
I have to admit, I'm totally in love with this final iteration of the current gen Mustang. The GT500 grille, hood vents, and blacked out taillights.
It's a tad tall and narrow looking from the rear, though.
This is personal preference.
I'll see how I feel after the newness of the Mustang wears off.

Agreed. You know a Mustang when you hear one. Love the sound of my car and get lots of compliments.

My wife says the same thing about the sound. She loves her Corvette but loves the sound of my stang. She has been thru a few axle backs trying to duplicate but there is no substitute for a Ford mod motor..
