Axleback install - break a weld?

I searched but couldn't find any threads re: this. Apologies if this has been answered before.

I just received my Bassani AB and the instructions state you have to break the stock weld on the clamps to remove the stock mufflers. I don't remember having to do this on my 05, but that was about 6 years ago.

Is this true? Hard to do?

The clamp that goes onto the over axle pipe from the muffler has a spot weld.

Remove the exhaust, it's a little bit different than the '05, but basically the same.

Pull the axleback off, and you'll see that the clamp has been tack welded on.

I bent it back and forth until it broke free.

It's really simple.

I was still able to do the complete install from off of my back without the use of a jack or jackstands.

I'm 260, 6'3", so just about anyone can do this as well off of their back.

Yeah I just got off the phone with a mechanic who wanted to know about that so he could give me a quote.

Everywhere I've read says installed ABs are easy and you don't even need to jack up the car. But if the stock exhaust is required to be cut out...

Yeah, I need answers on this too.

edit: Uh, is there welding involved?

Joker, it's not required to be cut out or welded in. There's a small weld to break, and then the new ones just clamp on. You could do it in a parking lot with some simple hand tools.

Dont you have a friend you could borrow a driveway from for an hour?

I just installed borla Atak axel backs and it's not hard at all. The only weld you will break is on the clamps so you can re-use them.

And the clamp comes off with the Muffler, so this is done off the car. Only Takes a minute to break the spotweld..Not a big deal.
