With the transmission in the 2011 GT and 3.55s, your first gear will be like a 2010 Gt with 3.73s. And your 6th Gear would be like the same with a 3.31. Given the extra HP and Torque of the new 5.0, unless you planning on drag racing it, go with the 3.55s. It is a 7% change from the 3.31s. Making the jump from 3.31 to 3.73s is close to a 12.5% change.

gear change

I dont want to be argumentative but, there is no way to lose 3 tenths by switching from 3.55 to 3.73 and changing absolutely nothing else. 3 tenths in a quarter mile is ALOT. That small of a change would not do that. You must have hooked better, engine cooler, less humidity a number of factors , but it could not be because of the gear change solely. Just my 2 cents

You forgot the 40 MPH tailwind and that it was firing on all 8 instead of just 7 cylinders...

What did you end up doing?

IMO? From 3.31 to 3.55, yes. From 3.55 to 3.90, yes. 3.55 to 3.73, no...
Agreed

Verts have no optional gear.

A 4.10 gear will be overkill unless drag racing is all you want to do since the 6 speed has such a short first gear.

Going from a 3.55 gear to a 3.73 is such a small change as to be almost un-noticeable.
No such thing as overkill.

Me personally, I would not change from a 3.55 to "just" a 3.73. I know in Camaro's (4th gens) going from 3.42 to 3.73 is not much of a difference. I put 4.11's in my Z (from 2.73's) behind an automatic which in the Fbody world was always considere "overkill". Loved every minute of it. Only thing that sucked? With a 3600 stall 1st and 2nd gears were useless unless I had DR's on.

A long time ago, I swapped 3.08s for 3.55s on my 94 GT with a 5-speed manual and got .3 seconds. I don't think my trap speed changed that much. I would normally only expect a .1 or .2 for this kind of swap. Not arguing, you got what you got but I have to wonder if you had better weather the next time around.

Blown motors act differently than N/A.

if the car was NA i agree..

corral day oct 2001 lebanon NY ( yes 2001) 3.55's 12.7 @108 average ant thats what car roughly averaged for a year prior to the gear swap on dr's 10 + passes, all day crossing trap 5000 rpm ish 4th
3 weeks later 3.73's added 12.4 @ 112 average on SAME dr's 54 all day.. 5400ish 4th and that what the car averaged up until i sold it.

im not trying to

believe what you want.. i was there you werent..

3.73 actually makes the car easier to drive and I save gas too. My old 2005 had 3.31 gears and my 1999 had the 3.08 set. I could never shift into 5th until 45-50. With the 3.73 in my 2010, I can shift into 5th earlier and can hold third for turns I used to shift into 2nd for. As a result, I've seen better mileage.

I will be going to 373's in my 08 Saleen SS charged car Should be a blast. It should give me the feeling of acceleration I had in my 03 Terminator.....and from I have read, my gas mileage should not take a hit.
