Its good to know that there are some manufacturers who have the ability to make the autoshift function very similar to a manual tranny(quick shifting). I have driven many cars, trucks and minivans with the autoshift and was severely disappointed with the execution of said feature. I also believe that once you have a motor with enough horsepower, it doesn't matter as much with spirited driving on the road. The auto trannies do a "good enough" job. If I lived in an area that had miles of twisties or a road track, I might change my mind, but then I would probably get a manual anyways.
If Ford can continue in its current direction of surprising us with new and exciting features and vehicles, we may see a better performing autoshift before the DCT.

That's because its Audi, BMW and Porsche. Ford could probably bring one to market with less of a markup...I hope. BMW's is actually in the $2900 range but still alot of change.

We'll see a PowerShift 6-speed trans. in 2014 with the redesign. Until then, it's fine for what it is. The V6 I drove quickly and precisely responded to pedal pushing and it didn't lag at all. If I were buying an auto, that's what I'd want it to be like.

No, I think its because only one company (I think its borg warner) builds a rwd dct that can take 400+ hp.

In the years to come when ford will probably have only one rwd v8 car mustang/falcon? will they design their own trans or just buy an off the shelf model from germany.

BMW also charges $699 for Illuminated Door Sills. Porsche charges $770 if you want Rear Footwell Lighting and LED Door Pocket Lighting. I think you see where I'm going here. Ford would not, and could not, charge $3,500 for DCT. $1,800 max IMO (considering a slushbox is $1k).

What I'm trying to say is that it may not be up to ford. While VW, mitsu, ford and others build dct's
for fwd cars I have only seen 1 DCT for high powered RWD cars. The one in the Audi S4, Porsches and some BMWs are the same trans.

Ford can either design and make their own, which may only go into the mustang or they will buy it from the same company the germans do. The wholesale price to ford would be higher, maybe far higher, than the retail price of a conventional torque converter trans.

I would love to see a dct in the mustang. I think its the wave of the future. But as long as the mustang is trying to stay affordable I don't see it happening.

Just out of curiosity, what are the other rear wheel drive cars you speak of? I don't know of any others in the americas other than the stang today. The only other that I remember is the Vic, but its been dead for a while now.

Porsche is the worse..you start with a 88k 997S and a few options and you are knocking on the door of 100k easy.

I believe Porsche builds their own..the PDK. The DCT tranny by BMW is a BMW design as well that is built by Getrag of Germany. Once again I don't believe it would be a $3-4k option if and when it comes to the Mustang. BMW charges $2900 while invoice is like $2600, keep in mind an auto tranny for a BMW 328i is almost $1600..so in the scheme of things its really not that bad. We are all guessing right now...who really knows.
