Anyone installed aftermarket HIDs in their 2010+
OK, I looked at a lot of threads last night trying to find something conclusive but it was late and I was tired so I gave up.
Has anyone here used the aftermarket kits (like American Muscle sells) to upgrade their headlights to HID? The kids are reasonably priced (under $300). I didn't order the factory HIDs because I didn't like the look on the front end but with the stock lenses I'd like to consider adding HID capability to the car without making it look like an afterthought.
Back story: I was watching Wheeler Dealers last night and they were retrofitting an older Lexus LS400 with new HID lamps and it was largely plug and play. This beats the "old" HID implementations which had huge ballasts, lots of heat, and tons of wire splicing.
Any experience with these?

why would you use aftermarket HID's when factory is available?

I ordered a set of DDM tuning and have ran several of these sets for friends. It's a 100% PnP kit. Most of the time is spent mounting and running the cables to the proper locations.

Either of those look pretty good. I was wondering the same. I just hate aftermarket as the quality never seems to be as good as factory. The OEM HID lights have really grown on me and it kind of provides a nice Euro touch to the car without making the car look Euro. Does that make sense? Anyway, where I live there are only higher end BMW, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Ferrari types, then just having the regular halogens just feels like I'm slumming it. I'd like to think I am not influenced by others around me but these cars are sexy and they deserve the good looks.
Anyway, I think I like your ideas on the kits, I like the standard light housing the best still.

Steve, I looked over those DDM kits, they are incredibly inexpensive. Something makes me weary about how inexpensive they are. Every aftermarket kit I have seen, even bad ones are well above $250. Is there something I am missing? The kits look like quality. Needs some better looming but that's about all I can tell from the pictures.

Or, is it possible to retrofit the older style Ford OEM HID's into a 2010/11 car? The 08/09 cars had factory HID's available that look just like the regular headlights, I would think it would be relatively easy (but probably expensive) to retrofit those?

It's plug and play and no wire splicing or cutting for around 60$ or less. OkI never really installed one one a Stang but my Mazda3 have a kit like this for 2 yrs and still working perfect even with our cold winter up north.
