Any particular reason why you would run a mix of manufacturer models and tread patterns?

I just put bridgestone potentza 970's on my '11 5.0, evidently they replaced the 960's, which were excellent tires. The 970's are a little noisy in comparision to the stock pirelli's, but have 11/32 tread depth, so i'll have to get used to them! They do grip.
I got 16,000 miles out of the oem tires, and was fairly impressed with them never having owned a pirelli tire before. Of course anything would be better than the goodyears that came on my Terminator.

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season Plus. Outstanding tire all the way around and I'm very pleased. 6 yr 45K mile warranty. Not cheap, though. Paid more for these than my summer set (Conti Extreme Contact DW).

+1 on these. I ran Conti DWS on my Lincoln but I now have the Pilot A/S plus. We are on our 2nd storm and I like these much better, better steering control imo. nothing beats dedicated snows though. I run I-Pikes on my spare wheels for the explorer, nice for when it gets real ugly.

I have had my Cooper RS3As for quite a while and love them! They are wearing great and have great traction.

I could try to come up with a good excuse but to be honest it is because they were cheap and had very good ratings.

We don't see much snow where i live but it does get too cold for 'summer only' tires. I'll be ready for new tires around the end of this summer and going to give the Cooper Zeon RS3-A a try.
