A very important distinction.

I have to check with... um... no one! Life IS good.

What's so funny is that I basically had the go-ahead for a used yellow C6 Corvette for about $30K. But then along came the 2010 and then the 2011 Mustang, and its lack of yellow as a color option (she likes yellow, so this just made it more difficult). And we still have two kids (who fit perfectly into the back seat of my GT, BTW), while my son is going off to college. Don't need to sit 3 across anymore, but a 2-seater won't quite cut it. The Mustang comes out with the 5.0 and - BAM! Decision made! (my perspective at least)

I don't see why she didn't take me more seriously when I first dove into this Mustang affair. I guess it's b/c I had a perfectly fine daily driver, and no sane reason for selling it to buy a car that cost more than 2x any other car I've ever bought. And i've not previously been a big Mustang fan since 1970. My wife is awesome, and she cried the day (May 21, 2000) we sold our 1972 Corvette convertible after 8 years of ownership. She's helped me replace timing belts, rebuild my Corvette's caliper, and replace valve seals (on the 'Vette too). She will come around.

Heck, Eric, as a Corvette guy, I LOVE HER! And I would have cried when the '72 'vette was sold. I've owned my '82 for 13+ years.

Remind her you can't really see the color of the car from the front seats.

If they had overcharged you on the Doc Fee then when the paperwork went to Ford for the X-Plan reimbursement Ford would have sent you a check for the overcharge and taken it out of the dealers reimbursement. Seen it to many times.

I am getting mad now.

I got the info below from the fordpartner.com website. Somebody on this forum explained the reason the doc fees went up. They said that the overall savings were the same. Raising the doc fee and deepening the discount puts more money in the dealer's pocket, but the savings is supposed to be the same.

Pricing Formula

* X-Plan is a pre-determined price based on dealer invoice or A-Plan price depending on brand. The X-Plan price is noted on the dealer invoice.

X-Plan

Ford/Mercury
Dealer Invoice - (0.4% * Dealer Invoice) + Administration Fee* (see sample invoice)

Lincoln
Dealer Invoice + (0.6% * Dealer Invoice) + Administration Fee* (see sample invoice)

Volvo
AZ-Plan + 2% of AZ-Plan

*$275 Administration Fee for 2010MY vehicles, $75 Administration Fee for 2009MY and prior vehicles.

To be clear, there are price lists w/ three columns: sticker; invoice w/o dealer holdback and invoice w/ dealer holdback.

The equation uses the invoice w/ dealer holdback costs, correct?

What about the destination, the advertising and the gas charges? Are those added into the dealer invoice number in the equation?

Same here on my wife's 2011 V-6 Convertible, just last week.

You are talking about two different things. The Adm Fee which went from $75 to $275 is included in the X-Plan Price.

The dealer is then allowed to also charge a Doc Fee. The Doc Fee is limited to a max of $75 (or the State Limit whichever is lower) and the dealer is required to charge the same to all X-Plan Customers. IE He cant wave it for one customer and charge another.

Ohhhh.... I was confused. Didn't realize the Doc Fee was on top of the Admin fee. I thought they were one and same.

Dealers and their fees sort of remind me of governments and their taxes.

I was going to purchase from a local dealer using X-plan, but before I did I contacted a dealer about 40 miles away, told them the price I was given, they turned around and gave me invoice pricing and said they don't charge any bs fees like some bigger dealerships do (the one I went to first is shady like that as well).

That likely came out about $200 Cheaper than X-Plan at the other dealer. 99.6% of Invoice + $275 = X-Plan and then the $75 Doc Fee at that "Other Dealer. Always better if you can get invoice (Adjusted for Doc Fee) if you can get it. Ive found I usually do better on straight out buys at large dealers dealing on invoice and with a trade dealing on X-Plan at small dealers.
