$500 rebate question - Need answer ASAP

I am doing the paperwork on my 2011 GT (arrived at dealer today) and they are telling me I can't get the $500 rebate if I use outside financing instead of Ford credit. I am getting x-plan and the $750 coupon.

Can anyone confirm?

If you're using the following program number, it should be applicable without Ford Credit. It clearly says that it's compatible with Ford Credit but it does not state that Ford Credit is required if I'm reading it correctly.

Program #11796: Take new retail delivery from dealer stock by 7/6/2010. Excluding Hybrids. See dealer for residence restrictions and complete details.

Customer cash, Ford Credit Bonus Cash and other incentives may vary by customer residency. Please see your Ford Dealer for complete details regarding program eligibility. Ford Credit Bonus Cash is compatible with Ford Credit Financing Offer.

I got it with outside financing yesterday.

Yeah, I thought there was a $500 bonus cash, at one point, if you WERE going to finance outside of Ford Credit. Either way, it sounds like they are telling you the wrong thing. The bonus cash is an offer on the car, not the financing anyway.

I let the dealer run the financing and they chose a non-Ford Credit entity (Bank of America, which I think sucks, BTW) as having the best deal, and I still got my $500 rebate, in addition to X-Plan deal, in addition to my $750 brochure coupon.

You got a lower rate didn't you? BOA is running much lower rates than Ford. I don't care where the money comes from, it's still going to Ford, just a chunk now goes to BOA.

The rebate is good with outside financing or cash deals.

Dealer says there is a red flag in the system saying we are not eligible.

WTF does that mean?!?!?

It sounds like he's trying to steer you toward specific financing.

Call Ford CS while you're there. Tell them what's going on. Ask for resolution.

Tell him to re-look at the vincent. There is a red flag (which means Ford Credit financing is required) next to the rate program #20240 and 20238 but not next to the $500 Promotional Retail Bonus Customer Cash program #11796. He is getting confused by the fact that the vincent report groups the $500 and the higher of the special rate programs together.

Just emailed that quote to them, thank you!

They are REALLY pushing the 72/75000 extended plan for $1568.00 which is no deal.

They also are charging $199 doc fee which I thought was not right with X-plan?

I am getting mad now.

I got my 72/100k for $979. Don't pay a penny more. You can get it too.

The $199 is not allowed with X-plan. $75 is.

Copied directly from the X-Plan info on-line:

Document Fees
  • Dealers will be permitted to assess up to $75 in documentary fees on each delivery to an eligible purchaser under the terms of the Plan, unless otherwise provided by state or local laws or regulation. Each dealer is responsible for complying with applicable laws or regulations.
  • Unless otherwise provided by state or local laws or regulation: In states where dealers are not permitted to charge as much as $75 for doc fees, dealers would be capped at the lesser amount as provided by the state. In states that permitted more than $75, dealers would be permitted to charge the Plan customer $75. In states that permitted more than $75 and also required that all customers be charged the same amount, dealers may charge the Plan customer $75 and indicate any additional fees have been paid by Ford Motor Company as part of the AXZD-Plan Program dealer reimbursement on the buyer's order.
  • Doc Fee Charges should be detailed on the AXZD Plan Pricing Agreement located in number 4.

Just sent this to salesman.

"I realize none of these things are your fault but I am really annoyed by these issues. It is only $624 all together, it is not the amount that bothers me, it is that I do not like being lied too.

We shall see how they respond. I may walk over $624 as I do not need this car.

1) $500 Promotional Retail Bonus Customer Cash program #11796 can be used with outside financing he is saying and they are right in NY so it should be the same in NJ.

2) I also am suprised by the $199 doc fee as I thought it was $75 with x-plan. See below

Document Fees
Dealers will be permitted to assess up to $75 in documentary fees on each delivery to an eligible purchaser under the terms of the Plan, unless otherwise provided by state or local laws or regulation. Each dealer is responsible for complying with applicable laws or regulations.

3) I am also really not enjoying the hard sell on the extended warranty."

You DO NOT have to buy the warranty there. Tell them to eff off.

You are entitled to the $500.

They can not charge you $199 doc fees.

All correct, now to see what they say.

I hate to walk over $624, but I may.

They have agreed to all of my requests and admitted they were wrong.

Skipping the warranty as I plan to mod anyway.

Thanks to all.

YES!!! The collective power of the Internet wins over old-school-crooked car dealer! My dealer didn't try any such shenanigans with me, or I definitely would have walked. I barely had spousal acceptance* as-is.

*I thought I had spousal approval, but I can tell by her attitude post-purchase that I really only had "acceptance". S'OK, I'll TAKE IT!!
