5.0 power numbers leaked? 400hp, 360tq, 6 speed.
Ok so here is a question.... assuming that the engine we end up getting is a 400hp 4v AL DI how will this compare to what we currently have potential wise? I mean with our current cars and 5k you can easily be sitting at 500-550 hp at the crank with stock internals . So my question is for the same amount of dough (best guesstimate ofcourse) what do you guys think this motor has the potential? Does it truly have the possibility to blow our current GT's out of the water?
It's more or less as Boomer and Moosetang explained it. Noobs over there consistently whine and moan about the credibility of Fourcams posts without ever taking the time to do some research and find out how accurate the guy really is. By this point I think he's just tired of these guys and figures if they can't bother to take the time to figure out what the lay of the land really is then they aren't worth his time or trouble.
)
Good question. We won't know until it's out but I'd have to guess the 5.0 being 4v will have more potential. However, when the 5.0 comes out it'll be the new hotness and maybe 3v parts will become more affordable. Making it easier for the 3v guys to catch up to the 5.0 guys.
Bigger bores allows bigger valves and ports, add in some stroke which means more air = more power. But I don't think just the .4 liter increase with air flow improvement is enough on its own, they must have found some power somewhere, or just have it tuned perfectly.
For instance a 3V Bullet 4.6 would be making approximately 342 hp at 5.0 liters. More port only air flow to get to 400 is stretching it..............maybe some more cam timing (higher revs) and intake manifold improvments, add in another point in compression and I think your there.......on premium fuel.

Well if the DOHC heads are similar to the current DOHC heads, then figure thats 60 pounds extra right there. Lol the LSx guys will be tickeled pink with the fact that the 5.0 motor will solidly be heavier than the LSx dressed weight by at least a good 40 lbs. (current 3v is 20 pounds lighter dressed).
Given the 4-valve heads I would actually be surprised if it was as difficult to get 400hp out of the upcoming DI 5.0L as it was to get 300 out of the 05 GT. The added stroke is an important factor but the biger issue is the unshrouding of the valves that the larger bore in the 5.0 makes a reality. Were not just talking about a simple improvement here but a genuine solution to a problem.....the bore on the 4.6L was just too small for optimum perfromance and couldn't take anytyhing like full advantage of any of the 4-valve heads. Throw in the improvements direct injection is going to bring to the table and 400hp isn't at all difficult to imagine.
True. I think the lightest available Camaro will be the 3800lbs V6 model. The V6 Camaro will be packing 306hp so it won't be no slouch.

That's providing you don't consider the 3800lb+ V6 as an oversized barge, otherwise it's going to be a slouch even at 306 HP

I just read a long thread at svt performance and fourcam says the camaro will be powered by a 430 hp ls3. He says the weight will be 4000-4050. The 10 mustang will be 3550-3600. If we get 400 hp also stated by fourcam then we will have a fighing chance for a change without having to go to a special edition stang. Take it with a grain of salt and dont shoot the messenger but fourcam has been very very accurate in the past.
The 10/11 Mustang is going to need to be a mid 12s car to beat the Camaro IMHO.
The bowties are all callin bs (surprise surprise)

but someone brought up a good point.
The 3v 5.0 that Saleen has (without DI)
is putting out 390hp@6000 and 390ftbs@4000ish
I have no doubt that the 4v can put out 400hp and 360lbs without DI.
I'd go so far as to say that look at the Saleen engine as blueprint, with the Ford production 302 being even better.
