That would be a big jump (compared to the t previous models: 220 to 260 hp and 260 to 300 hp) which I think all Mustang lovers will like.. it is almost 30% increase in hp..

Hope it comes true.. I want to see the look on Camaro and Challenger guys faces by then

Those would be good, healthy numbers. Not astounding -- state of the art V8s are now getting about 420hp with .5l less displacement and the Camaro numbers will likely be above this too -- but very good. And the 5.0 will come in a much cheaper ride than the aforementioned Euros and have less deadweight to haul around than the Camaro and Challenger.

Presumably it will have GDI for higher and broader power, less emissions and better economy. My hope is that they'll aim this as a more premium performance motor and do away with the penny-pinching 87 octane dictate of the current 4.6 with its accompanying performance limitations. At least have a proactive ECU that'll actually make use of the knock sensors and tune the motor accordingly whether its chugging 87 swill or 93 champagne.

87-93, hell.... In Colorado it 85-91 octane. I WISH we could get 93. We pay the same price for 91 as the rest of the country pays for 93.

I just cant see the 400 hp motor being in a base GT. Maybe the "special" edition. But Ford just never really want to give the GT the good stuff. Just the "good enough" stuff.

ok so from what I've read he is VERY knowledgable and I totally believe that these numbers are possible (was thinking 375 but 400 sounds fantastic). So bottom line is I think I am going to have to trade... sucks. So my only question is that if you read on he states that it will be difficult to push anything but maybe 3lbs of boost so the major mods on the 5.0 would be keeping it N/A. I don't understand this unfortunately so if someone could tell me why that would be great. I just can't forsee life without a SC.....

Actually he was talking about the ISF engine not the Mustang engine so don't worry yet until we hear the complete technical specs of the new stang engine.

This would go with no overlap between a V6TT 3.5 and the 5.0

I will tell you right now...

... people will be thrilled with the Mustangs 5.0....that is all (if its true )

So the lineup were looking at is:

v6 base line
v6 TT 3.5
5.0 v8 GT
5.4 gt500

this sounds really good to me esp if the 5.0 is alum

Yeah, he was talking about the Lexus. But I think the new 5.0 judging by it's numbers will have higher compression than the 4.6 3v. I don't think you'll be seeing boost over 10 psi on stock blocks.

Actually, we don't know what material the 5.0 block uses. There've been rampant rumors it will use a CGI block, for instance.

I heard the CGI block was dropped for aluminum.

Not so sure about the CGI...
I'd think AL before CGI

I heard the same thing and then I also heard somewhere around here that a set of test cars went into Alberta and they had alum 5.0 blocks... was under the impression that 5.0 alum was pretty much set in stone. Will definately help weight ratio and assuming we could push a decent amount of boost (under 10 is fine by me) due to weight ratio this thing has the possibility of being killer

It is very doubtful that Ford will offer 400hp in the base GT, like I said many times before. This particular engine will go in a SE, otherwise Ford itself would have a problem selling anything upline from that base engine (GT500, etc.) . Then again, Ford may drop the GT500 after its successful campaign and just go with SE's until all the hype has burned out. Besides, a 400hp engine in a somewhat stripped model would give a GT500 serious headaches. Ford said back in late 2006 that the Boss 302 would indeed be this car. Also, when was the last time a Mustang increased hp by over 30%?(a base model GT that is).
