I'm also thinking we will see the 5.0 first in the F150. It's primarily a truck engine anyway. I know we all like to think the Mustang is the center of the auto universe, but think about how many more trucks/SUVs will be using the new 5.0 as opposed to one third (GT's) of Mustangs.
I don't know the exact figures, but depending on how many other models use the 5.0, the Mustang GT could only comprise about a quarter of 5.0 powered vehicles come next year. Especially if we see the EBV6 in 2011. That would make the number of potential 5.0 Mustangs even less as some people would opt for that over a V8.

If you can get 400hp for a decent price now with a full warranty then it would be worth it.
However, my dealer wants $7.5k to install the 430hp Roushcharger parts and labor; that is a fat chunk.
If the price was $3,500 installed then it would make sense to do it this year; otherwise as you guys say it makes more sense to wait for a 400hp N/A powerplant with the option to boost it later.

if you wait for the 400hp n/a power plant you wont have to boost it right away. you do your simple bolt ons and you will be around your 430hp mark without spending money on the roushcharger. then if you get more involved(Heads, Cams, nitrous) then you will definitely be over your 430 mark. i think it was mentioned somewhere here that the 400hp n/a powerplant would have much higher compression, so therefore you would have to run low boost on the motor(something like that).

exactly!!! if it gets the job done with gas mileage and power then what is the **** problem?
here is why displacement doesnt matter anymore.
in 1968 the gt500 had a 428 with 335hp
in 2005 the mustang gt kept its 281 with 300hp
35hp difference with a difference of 147 cubic inches.
i say the 2005 mustang gt definitely got the job done with the displacement it had!

as far as the dyno part to your post, im sure the 1968 weighed less as well. plus i was talking about hp to the motor, if i was saying dyno hp i would of made sure i put rwhp in my post

The current 5.4L is too heavy and makes the front end push (understeer). I'd love to see Ford try to take 200 lbs out of the GT500. It would make it handle and brake better, as well as accelerate better. The best of both worlds for everyone!

Someone hasn't been paying attention.
Ford has mentioned many times already that they are looking at reducing the size of their V8's, and adding turbos to DI engines for better mileage with the same power (ecoboost). They have even talked about replacing V8s with TTv6s and v6s with TTI4. So yea I think ford could and would replace the 5.4 with a 5.0 if it had equal to better power with better mileage. You may say someone in the market for this isn't worried about MPG. Maybe, but ford is. Plus it would be nice to have a high performance flagship model that doesn't come with a gas guzzler tax.
Why not debut this engine in the GT500 it is the companies flagship vehicle right now. Its kind of like the Ford GT that debuted with tech that is in many ford vehicles now.
I'm not saying it will show up in detroit. I know nothing but what I read here and other automotive news sources. My post about it being a possibility was just a joke. Though I don't think it is propable I do think it is possible, and I don't think it would be a bad move on Ford's part.

Maybe they'll offer a good deal if you sign up to get one in 2011? Like maybe the employee pricing on it if you order one in January?
I know I'm dreaming, but maybe Ford will do something like that just to show the interest that is out there for one of their products! They can tell Congress, "See! We have all these orders for Mustangs, so you should loan us a couple of billion to make them for people!"

I went to the LA auto show today and asked the head of "Team Mustang" of when we will possibly see the 5.0s out for production. I had asked two other workers before but they said that "they couldnt discuss anything about the 2011." He actually told me as the 2010s are being released for sale, around the same time the 5.0 will debute at the Detroit Auto Show. Also found out it is still a 3500 option for a 420 hp supercharged option from direct from Ford, however, it will limit the warranty of the car to less than 36K/3year warranty, and the same goes for the 500 hp version except with less warranty coverage. Now this is what the guy told me it can be 100% right or 100% wrong.. Just thought I would share w/ you all the good news.
A 3500 dollar option for a S/C 420HP! No way that kit alone costs about 6,000 for the 2008! Just my opinion but I don't see it being that cheap....If it were though that would be bad ***!
