Question 3.55 vs. 3.73 Rear

With the transmission changing and added power for the 2011 GT, what would be the better rear for quarter mile times?

I have the 3.55 limited slip rear in my '05 GT and was happy crossing the line in 4th for mid to upper 13s... Anyone know the gearing for the new 6spd?

I'm sure it'll be like before... standard low gears,
with performance gears being options.
So I guess we'll see 3.55s and or 3.73s as options.

Why do you shift out of 3rd?
I am just asking because it can be done without going into 4th.
What RPM is your rev limiter at?
Do you have 17" wheels?

With 100 extra HP, I think that 3.55s would be fine. Depends on the transmission though.

3.55s are fine.
3.73s are better

Don't fear the gear.

3.73s are great in street driven 5.0 Fox bodies.

Have not taken the plunge yet with the '08 but 3.73s are in it's future.

4.10's in my '07 GT, and I have to cross the 1/4 mile in 5th (overdrive). Not ideal, but my drag radials are too short to make it in 4th.

More gear is always good, IMO. 4.10's, 4.30's, even 4.56's would be awesome in an '11 GT. With traction, you'd be looking at low 12's in the 1/4 mile.

Depending, but assuming the 6spd is a bit lower than the current 5spds, then 3.55's will be perfect. Especially with all the extra power. You really won't do much better with more gear, except shift sooner.
Unless you're an auto, which will need more with the stock converter.

It all depends on the 3rd gear ratio to diff. The B hits the qtr in 3rd at 100+ at ease with 3.73.'s.

2.97:1 first gear is standard on current 6-spd offerings on the Mustang. I am going to believe that Tremec is going to supply the current GT500 transmission on the 2011. The five-speed first gear is currently 3.27:1.

I have the 3.73:1 in my '06 with the five-speed and it is perfect. Don't fear the gear is right, if you are going to run DRs or some really wide sticky, low mileage tires. If you are running a street radial or some A/S tires, 3.73:1 is great.

Ideally, 3.90:1 would be great, but stick with FRPP gears.

Never tried pulling it that far in 3rd, just feels like 4th has a bit more umph before the line.
Running Nitto 555s on 18s, rev limiter removed w/ tune.

Thanks for the replies...

Wasn't really considering the track pack due to access to after market, but I hate setting up gears and the track pack isn't bad if the GT500 brakes are included for 2011.

With the 7k rpm redline that is suspected you would want to go at a minimum with 3.73 gears with 4.10's being optimal. If the car already has 3.55's the switch to 3.73's wouldn't be worth it and go directly to 4.10's.

Alot of this is going to depend on the kind of gear ratios the car has with the tranny. If you look at M3's they have a 4.24:1 1st gear to make up for their lack of low rpm torque. The Coyote doesn't seem to have this problem so we will probably see something in the 3.35:1 range with gear ratios spread accordingly.

I can't wait until tomorrow.
