Manual trans, 3.73s, stock 5.0
That drive is sooo boring.... I'm from Modesto area, used to drive 99 all the time.

I got a curious experiment I'd like you to try if you don't mind. If you got those MPGs with 93 Octane. Perhaps you could try the same route with 87 and see if there is any change in your MPGs. My friend claims he got better MPGs with his 2008 Bullitt than he did with premium.

I guess the 08,09 Bullitt and 2010 GTs like the new 5.0 can run on both premium and regular with a slight effect on HP numbers.

At 600 - 700 rpm how fast where you going? With 373 gears I'm right around 1000 rpm going 100 km/hr (60 mph).

*Edit* wow what was I smoking last night? Obviously your car is at idle and mine runs around 2000 rpm not 1000... yikes..

I filled up the other day, after mixed driving, in the hills, several trips on I-90 to the city, and a run of 80 miles round trip on I-90, cruising at 75, with a high cross wind. I have the 5.0, 6 sp mt, and 3.55 rear end. My read out when I filled up was 21.2 mpg average. I then calculated the mpg using the mileage driven and gallons delivered. It comes out to 22.115 mpg. I don't dog it, but I also don't drive like I am 65...wait, that's because I am 67. I have a little over 10,000 miles on her and she just seems to be more fun to drive every day.

I only use Conoco Premium as the Regular and Mid-Level both contain alcohol, while the Premium is pure 100% gasoline.

I can easily believe that the 2011 GT will get 27+ MPG on the highway, since I do it all the time in my 2010 and the 2011 "should" be a little better, according to the ratings.

It's the overall average that counts, regardless of how you get there, as long as you are talking about round-trips -- so if you are going up and down hills, and you coast on the downhills, that "counts" in the overall average. I do take advantage of coasing opportunities whenever I get them, such as long downhills or when there is a stop coming up or any time; just pop it in neutral and coast until you either need to put it back in gear to speed up or hit the brakes to slow down. The car uses energy (gas) to go up the hills, so taking advantage of that potential energy when you go back down is not "cheating."

Now, if you drove to the top of a hill, reset the MPG readout, then coasted down the hill and took the reading and claimed that as your true gas mileage, THAT would be "cheating."

Regarding the accuracy of the computer readout -- I have checked it many times on my 2010, and it varies a little versus the measured/calculated mileage, but it is always very close -- often times about 0.2 MPG high, sometimes a little low; overall average pretty much right on. Of course with the 2011-12 "your mileage may vary"

I would expect to get slightly lower MPG with 87, as it produces 'less power' per engine cycle, and therefore should travel less distance when compared to 93. Next time the tank is on E, I will try this just once to see if I can also detect a drop in power with the seat of the pants dyno.

Common misconception. There is the same energy in both. Octane number just indicates how fast it burns and hence how resistant to detonation it is. higher octane burns slower. So while you will feel less power if your car pulls timing, if you drive it such that it does not pull timing, you should get the same mileage.

Different gas will give different MPG based on what its made of but not its octane. So, for instance, the more ethanol in the gas, the less energy per gallon and less MPG.

no doubt. my 07 that I traded in got gas mileage off the chain.. all I do is highway drive. In the past 2 weeks I put 4500 miles on my 11 and it's nothing but great.
the 11 highest I've seen is 382 which I posted the picture on the last page
here is one from my 07 on the way back from jacksonvill fl to tx.

Ok, fair enough. Whether it's the octane rating or what's in it, I will test it and post the results.

Great, I'll keep track of this thread I'm looking forward to the results. Also make sure you let us know if it feels any different. I know my brother's 2010 GT seems the same on regular or premium but that is just me.

On my 1500 mile road trip the day after I took the car of the lot, I was able to get 24-26 mpg (calculated, not displayed) cruising at 75 most of the time...

"Your results may vary" because the biggest variable is driver technique, and pushing the pedal to the metal causes the car to gulp fuel. That said, I am convinced that 30mpg is possible with intensive attention to detail, but that's not what we bought our cars for...

Even at $4 a gallon, mashing the gas down is cheaper and more fun than psychotherapy...

I'm on my 3rd tank of gas so far. first tank I got a grand total of 175 miles

this last tank, 245

If I can get 300~ish to a tank, I'll be happy.

Cruising on the highway, I had my display claim as high as 28 MPG, and had to really have next to no throttle going down (doing about 65-70mph in 6th around 1500-2000rpm). I haven't really thought about confirming it at the pump though.

I drive mostly city miles and I've been calculating 16-17 MPG. It's too much fun to drive. When I get close to a 1/4 tank my brain tells me to start shifting earlier for better economy but as soon as my foot touches the gas... my heart says "ah well... **** it."

On 10/21/10, I showed my 5.0 getting 32 MPG. It was about @ 10 @ night? I have tried going over the same bridge to replicate, couldn't get even close! I just went over it tonight @ about 11:00, 55 degrees, I showed getting 32.6. Went from that to 32.9. Flat cause on a bridge.

Going 65, forgot that part!

reset the mpg display when I got on the interstate sunday night headed home. 100 miles down I65 going about 78~80 with light traffic yielded about 25.5 mpg.

looks like I'm on track to hit that magical 300 miles on this tank!

Miles driven divided by gallons used results !

This morning I topped off the tank with 87 octane regular; (this was after reading this other thread here https://themustangsource.com/f813/fuel-needs-495357/ )

And reset the trip odometer and avg MPG gauge, it was 20.4 at the Sunoco station. The shot below was taken after I got on the on ramp and was in 6th gear. The total mileage diff shown in the upcoming shots will show distance traveled at 63.7, but when you subtract the distance to get from the 1st gas station to when I reset the MPG gauge, as well as the distance from the 2nd gas station to my parking lot at work where the final pic was taken, you get exactly 63 miles.

Saw this on the way and had to take a pic;

Coasting thru the toll plaza I mentioned on my earlier post. Here is where I recorded my max MPG too. Temps were a chilly 48 degrees on the way in today;

And now the last reading from just before getting off the highway, the gas used, and the trip odometer reading. On both fill ups, I held the pump handle to full 'on' and then stopped when the auto-shut off stopped the flow. I did not 'top off' the tank to try and cheat as we know this is a no-no and can damage the vapor recovery system.

63/2.211 = 28.493894

I would have gotten even better MPG had I not run into traffic on 2 separate spots during the commute.

So there you have it, 28.5 MPG on today's commute. I have not yet calculated MPG on the return trip as I go home on a different route. One of these days when I have to head straight home, I will post those results as well.

Off topic, I head home on a different route to stop by here;

http://www.pinballwizardarcade.com

I grew up playing a lot of these tables, and to find such a great place with over 75 tables in perfect condition after decades of playing on beat on machines at the beach or in bars is too good to resist. It's over 30 miles from my house, so it makes the most sense to stop by on my way home.

Notice a difference in performance?

Good to know that u still get good mpgs with regular, and thanks for the experiment. I was planning on possibly getting a new V6 as a daily driver next year but I may consider springing the extra cash for a GT since the MPGs may not be as different as I had though they might be....

Highway mileage will likely be very similar. When I picked up the new V6 in Delaware, I had a good opportunity to compare mileage with the V8 in the Shelby GT. The Shelby got 24mpg and the V6 got 25.6mpg on this trip. The V6 is a fantastic daily driver, though!

Was only half a tank of regular, it had either 91 or 93 octane in it when I topped it off at the first fill up. But I bet the difference would be small on such a short highway trip. Now if we were talking 1000+ miles, that might be a different story...
