2200 Mile trip report -- and a quality gaffe
OK, so after a long weekend driving the new Mustang 2200 miles and more than 36 hours in the seat with two separate 12-hour stints, here are my observations:
1) Amazingly comfortable and quiet - best Ford ever.
2) Fuel economy consistently at 27 MPG on trip computer with one fill up indicated 29.65 MPG (manual calculation, not trip computer.) MPGs go down as speeds increase above 70 MPH (not surprisingly.)
3) Air conditioning stopped working during a 410 mile leg of trip but "reset" after car was turned off and restarted. Not a problem in the next 1000 miles.
4) Power delivery is still a blast in the V6
5) The trunk is tiny.
6) The limited slip diff works quite well
7) Traction control allows some wheel spin; no traction control allows A LOT of wheel spin.
8) No one riding in it ever said, "You just got the V6?"
And the coolest quality gaffe of the trip: Showing my friends/family the engine bay my nephew points out the coolant sticker calls for "green" coolant while the tank is filled with pink. So much for "final inspections" and "wanting to get them perfect." Check your stickers, kids.
The A/C was more than annoying given the temperatures this weekend. My thought is that if there's a wide-open throttle switch that turns off the A/C to allow for more power (typical with 4 cylinder cars), that this may have "stuck" during my merge onto the highway after a fill-up. So for 400+ miles, no A/C and 85-90 degree heat in what ended up including about 80 miles of stop-and-go traffic.
Ran parallel with a 5.0 Kona 'vert for a very long way in OH and PA.
The car is just a tad over 2 weeks old now and I have 2800 miles on it. Lovin' every minute of it.

I haven't seen it to confirm but my co-worker ( who I have bombarded with pics of the 2011 ) said she saw another Race Red Cali Special with a glass roof in the DC Metro Area. She was so sure it was me she drove up next to him but it was not me. I assumed she had no idea what she was saying but she described it perfectly. What are the odds...

That's awesome!

The Kona 'vert had HIDs. I kept looking at it and have concluded I like the conventional layout much better. I'd love to have HIDs but I just don't like the looks of the front end with them. Move them outboard and I'd have forked over the money without question. But for some reason I really like them on the Shelby... so go figure.

....and the owners manual says to use "Motorcraft Specialty
Orange Engine Coolant" WSS-M97B44-D which is a OAT Dexcool type. Ford hasn't used the "old fasioned" green in years.
Ford was using yellow G-05 coolant for most cars/trucks which is a lightly silicated HOAT hybrid.
Now certain Fords like the Taurus are using dark green, which is a asian-style HOAT, no silicate, nitrite type, not to be confused with the old yellow-green conventional Prestone high-silicate types.
I have no idea what the Ford Pink is, but it might just be the Specialty-Orange with a differantet color. (some European Fords have the pink stuff too.) Easy huh?

Me: My A/C just quit. Wouldn't work for 410 miles of driving no matter what I did. Fan blew but no cold air came out no matter what the setting.
Service Adviser: Is it blowing cold air now?
Me: Yep.
Service Adviser: Can you reproduce the problem?
Me: Nope.
Service Adviser: (Looking up as if to ponder the universe) So you want us to fix your car that's working?
Me: Uh, yeah.
Service Adviser: OK, drop it off and we'll call you when it's done.
(time passes)
.... RRRRRRIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG.....
Me: Hello?
Service Adviser: Hi, just wanted to call and let you know your car is ready for pick up.
Me: GREAT! What was wrong with it?
Service Adviser: Um, the notes say the tech was unable to reproduce the problem.
Me: That was the same conclusion I reached!
Service Adviser: We don't break 'em; we fix 'em. Yours isn't broken. But if it happens again, please bring it back.
Me: Um... OK.
Now if I just skip all that and keep that 8 or 9 hours of my life to do other things, I'll be far less frustrated and the service techs can spend their time fixing real problems.

I bough my Honda Accord V6 Coupe 10 years ago and still going strong with almost 140,000 miles. I planning on keeping it as my beater/winter car as long I can afford both. I know quality has improved a lot in the last 5 years but still feel I'm taking a gamble buying an american car. Hopefully Ford doesn't let me down. I'm not expecting it to last 10 year as my Accord but at least give me 5-6 years of no troubles. One thing for sure if my car starts becoming a headache, I will get rid of it right away. Don't have a lot of patience with cars.

on my car when i do WOT and the RPMs go over about 5000 the AC will turn off and come back on about 10 seconds after i let off the thottle. the first few times it did this it scared me as i thought my car had a problem, but it does the same thing every time and i live in Phoenix so my AC is ALWAYS on!
so there may be a switch or something on them so the pumps dont spin to fast or when you go WOT.

So within my 1st two weeks of ownership my 2011 GT ‘vert has an airbag/SRS light problem. After the dealer took most of my Friday off to fix it, they told me they had to order a part (a “module”) & I’d have to BRING THE CAR BACK ANOTHER DAY to let them install it. It’s now Thursday, 6 days later, and they STILL don’t have the part. When it does come in, and I take my car back there, I will let them know we’re already at double the total warranty trips to the dealer I had with my Honda.

Please be patient and understand that this vehicle has many new parts... Production replacement part stocks are not fully loaded yet, so it may take a week or so to get the replacement part. They can't just run down to NAPA and get it...

Well, I have a 2010 V6 Mustang and Ive had some electrical issues myself..
1) First issue was , as we were driving car was surging and bucking, we got home shut car off, then took it for another ride and it was fine.,Never happened again..The wrench did pop up on dash
2)Lights on dash for options I dont even have were lighting up when first started and would remain on for 2-3 minutes....
3) A few times after door was shut and keys were in hand and lights off. It would...ding.. ding..ding..and shut off on its own..
