2014 Hood Shake

I just purchased a 2014 Mustang GT. Immediately upon getting on highway as soon as I get to 75-80 mph that hood scoop (closet to windshield) shakes so bad I automatically let off the gas. I want to get on her more but I'm terrified of losing the hood. Took it to local mechanic & he thought it may need new tires? I feel it's a bit more than that!!

This is an old post I started years ago but figured out what the problem was and it is fixed and doesn't shake anymore.
There is a plastic shield under the front that is bolted to the bottom of the front valance (under front bumper). Mine was loose from running over something. Since it's just made of plastic it ripped at a few of the bolt holes. This caused a gap that allowed the wind to get past it and into the engine compartment causing turbulence and making your hood shake. I simply glued the holes back in place and bolted it back up.
Hope this helps

I have a 2013 Mustang V6 and I've ran into the same problem. I've seen people on other sites say its tires and some say driveshaft. But I do have a chunk of the air deflector gone from the rubber strip under the car from running up on curbs. Did the hood shaking make it feel the whole car shook?

2014 Mustang gt hood shaking horribly
So, for the last three years my hood was shaking horribly at high speeds (50+ mph). During the same time I had a JLT catch can installed. i started noticing my engine was loosing power, rough idling on cold starts with no engine codes popping up. The check engine light never turned on. It turns out I removed the entire catch can unit and reinstalled the original pvc tube on the engine passager side. As a result, all issues were fixed. the JLT was causing a vaccumm leak, causing the engine to shake at high speeds (hood shaking) and rough idling on cold starts. Now my hood no longer shakes at all, engine idles perfectly and power came back. If you have a catch can and your hood is shaking, try this. it may solve the issue. I hope this helps anyone out there!

Mine did the same thing. I had a hair line crack in one of the cheap plastic fitting on the JLT catch can. I replaced the 2 plastic fittings on the catch can with brass fittings bought from my local hardware store. You'll need to buy fuel line hose, cut to the same length as the ones that came with the catch can. Very carefully cut out the quick connects from the hard hose that came with the catch can, and push them into the new rubber fuel line hose. Use small hose clamps on both ends on both (4 total) of the new fuel line hose. I used tread tape on the new brass fitting threads that went into the catch can also. Pre fit your catch can connections before you tighten up the small hose clamps, you'll have to move them up or down to make them fit right, then tighten the hose clamps. No more vacuum leaks

I have the same issue with hood shake on my 2014 GT... I've adjusted the hood bump stops up and down, then replaced all of the hood bump stops and adjusted those up and down and hood shake will not go away. However, the plastic cover under the oil pan broke off...could that be the culprit? I think it's safe to say at this point that I have eliminated the hood bump stops as the cause.

I have seen some other posts that suggest that plastic air shield actually does make enough difference to the air flow under the hood, to potentially cause this problem, yes .... I find it a little hard to believe, but I'm pretty sure it was thought to be the cause
It's probably worth replacing anyway, because I doubt Ford would have added that cost if it didn't actually do anything

Agreed on the plastic air shield as the culprit... Also agree that Ford wouldn't had included the air shield if it didn't serve a meaningful purpose...

I always thought the 197 should have had some sort of venting in the plastic cowl piece at the base of the windshield to let some air flow out from under the hood.
My 08 GT/CS had pretty bad hood shake, worse than GT s I had been in. I think it was to do with the different front bumper with the big rectangle opening in the lower center took in more air. My 08 SGT had the same bumper with no hood shake, but it had hood pins.

You're right Bert, didn't think about that. That's where the breather pulled in air on Nascar cars for decades. But the front end was pretty much sealed off except for enough to keep the radiator fed. Would be interesting to see the pressures in those areas on a street car like the 197. Good post man, got me thinking and my brain needs some exercise lol
