Maybe it's poop gas, erroneously labeled as 91. Maybe it's not.

I’m experiencing inconsistent power when accelerating. Sometimes, the car really throws me back into the seat and sometimes it’s just all grunt with no torque. What could this be?

If you haven't been fooling with anything it sounds like the car might be compensating for weak gas. I'm going to have to start paying attention to the specs of the gas in my area.

 

Yah, probably is weak juice. I'll experiment with different gas stations until I find one that's serving up the fun stuff.

 

Somebody had a link in one of the threads about a month ago suggesting only using stations that are designated part of the Top Tier Gasoline group.

I rarely buy gas from a station brand that is not on the Top Tier list.

I usually go with Shell or Exxon, but also Sunoco pretty frequently. I'm surprised Sunoco isn't in the Top Tier list.

I use 76 or shell exclusively and it works great every time.

 

Thinking outside the box - Is the traction control off?. Straight line with equal wheel spin or none it will squat and rip. If you goose it on a 90 deg corner like at the end of the street. If the traction picks up on you lifting 1 tire and spinning only 1 tire it will cut the fuel input to equal wheel spin. If you want to play on corners from a stop you may need to turn off the traction.

 

Shell or Mobil. Never anything else. I'll go out of my way to put that gas in.

 

If you don't run a lot of gas often I would put in a stabilizer to minimize the ethanol loss and that may solve your problem.

 

I'm with you, CubedStang. Sunoco is among the the few local places from whom I purchase gasoline. I guess, like you, I'm sticking with Shell or Exxon in the future.

 

I was going to say the same thing, but take it a step farther.

Is Advancetrac off? There are 3 different systems there that can limit fuel and apply brakes depending on what the sensors are detecting. Traction Control is the most obvious, especially in a straight line, but Yaw and Roll Control could also kick in if one tire grabs and the other doesn't.
