2014 GT With Hurst Shifter

Just bought a 37K miles 2014 GT with Hurst shifter. At least 50% of the time, I think I am in first at a light only to be in reverse. There seems to be no additional spring or other means to avoid the confusion. Should I take it out and check for wear or loose bolts? I love the car and the short shifts but this problem makes me uncomfortable every time I start off. Any ideas?

Hello,

Welcome To TMS!

Very Nice Car and Thanks For Joining!

When You Get A Chance if You Like Go To Introductions Page!

https://themustangsource.com/forums/f650/

Do You Know Which Model Shifter You Have?

Does it Have T Reverse Lock Out??

Here Are Instructions For The Competition Plus Shifter. T Lock Out

PDF & VIDEO!

EVEN IF YOU HAVE OTHER MODEL SHIFTER BASIC INFO THE SAME!

I would Suspect Worn Bushing on Bottom of Shifter.

I would Also Check Out Stabilizer Bushing!

Stabilizer Vid, Different Brand

Shifter Install

Being that I've also replied to your post over on the introductions subforum section... I'll just quote from my previous post from there.

I would guess it has something to do with the Hurst shifter and/or the install. I do not have any issues with reverse and 1st with my OEM Stock shifter. Someday I would like to get a MGW shifter to replace the OEM. Kind of a "If it ain't broke" story right now.

OP, are you really having trouble between the two or it is a 'mental' thing where you worry too much? I've had manuals where you wondered what gear you were in but the old saying of 'practice makes perfect' came into play and I didn't think about it anymore. You could feel what gear you were in.
I miss shifting.
It's been over a year now but I seemed to always have at least one manual car. I have 'sport mode' in both the GT and R/T (buttons and paddle shifters) but not having a clutch makes quite a difference.
Enjoy your manuals guys. You never know when left knees go bad or other health issues develop.
