2012 Mustang GT Used modded Mustang won’t run
2012 Mustang GT Used modded Mustang won’t run
I recently purchased a used ‘12 GT from auction. I’ve noticed the following mods: CAI, Boss Intake, headers, x-pipe (no cats), and muffler delete system. Usually after starting, I get a constant surging idle, some shaking, and then it stalls out after after coming back down from throttle. Also, every once in while, I’ll get a crank no start as fuel pump won’t prime.
It throws the following codes: P2196, P2198, P0420, P0430. I am assuming that the car was tuned. Perhaps if it were flashed back to stock somewhere along the line, would these mods cause it to run like this? I don’t see a port to test fuel pressure. I threw a new MAF sensor and fuel pump at it but no fix.
This was supposed to be my dream car but I’ve yet to actually drive it. It does look nice sitting in my driveway I suppose =P

I would Contact These Folks about a Programmer & Custom Tune. Hopefully You can see all the Mods & Cams Are Not Changed to get an Accurate Tune.
Perhaps They can Provide Some True Tuner Experience & Put you on the Right Path!

yes those mods would need tune modifications, and if it is flashed back to stock then it would not run right ... but I have no clue if that is the problem or the whole problem
unfortunately since you bought it at auction, there probably is no way to reach the prior owner to find out about the tune and get the tuner device
I think I would look for a local Mustang performance shop / tuner and see if they can figure it out
PS -- welcome to the forum!

My Experience With Bama was With Doug Personally as he Did the First 07 Gt-500 Tune and I got it. Sorry I am Out of Date on what has Transpired In My Absence. Sorry to Hear of Service Issues with American Muscle. Food for Thought.
Going to the Site and The Name Bama all over everything I would Assume Doug was Overseeing Everything. So I was Confident service would be good! Perhaps Not the Case. Oh Well That's What I Get for Assuming!
Meanwhile if he Does not have a Local Shop to go to Who would you {Or Any Other Forum Viewers} Recommend as an online Tuning Source? And I would think Online Tuning would be a Difficult Job Indeed!
Thanks,
KC

There's a person who goes by the name of Lito aka Manuel Pazo.. Although he's located in Venezuela, he's well established and well known as the 3v guru.. There's also VMP performance and JDM engineering as well... Links are provided below.

He later went on to become the lead calibration tuner for C&L Performance until their demise and eventually was also acquired by American Muscle... At any rate, ever since American Muscle acquired Bama Custom Tuning, the quality of their so called custom e-mail tunes don't even come close to meeting the standards of which Doug provided as the owner and calibration tuner of Bamachips Custom Tuning...
This of course is just my personal opinion lol. Anyhow, following my negative experiences with American Muscle/Bama, I made the switch over to Brenspeed for a few years and then made the switch to JDM engineering and have remained a customer ever since... That being said, I also highly recommend JDM as they also have a very high reputation as Ford custom tuning specialists, and have over 20 years experience in the industry to back it up.. VMP performance is also highly recommended as well... Links are provided below, if interested...

When Doug first sold his tuning business over to American Muscle, he did oversee the transition as a consultant, but once the transition process was complete, his involvement as a consultant came to an end..

I have worked with Lito and super happy with his work. But I'm not sure he can handle this kind of diagnostic and tuning situation, where we don't really know what the problem(s) is(are). He might be able to glean some clues from a datalog, but you can't datalog if the car won't run.
To the OP Unt4m3d -- any progress or updates?

Sorry about that. I ended up replacing the PCM and all is good now. Turns out rain water had seeped thru the aftermarket hood vents and got onto the computer - causing all sorts of air/fuel issues and strange codes. Car is running strong now. I recently purchased an SCT Tuner and hope to reach out to Lito shortly to awaken it a bit more.

You Might Want to Consider a Water Shield For The Hood To Prevent a Repeat Issue! I Would Also Advise To Check Any Other Electrical Components in General Area To Prevent Gremlins From Occuring Later. I Really Like The WD-40 Contact Cleaner For Electrical Connections! Link On Bottom!
