2014 GT Hood Corrosion

I am going to assume that this is how it starts. 2014 GT with 3800 miles. I don't think I am going to deal with Ford on this. When it makes its way to the top where its visible I am just going to throw on a Cervini Stalker Hood.

no, please- deal with ford, make them fix it first, get your new hood, flatten out the repaired one, fold it up, put in a box, send to ford corporate

mine will probably wind up going there, but it woulda been more fun if they had to throw some cost into them first...

re-looking at your picture, dont know if thats corrosion- looks more like a run/adhesion in the clearcoat- every fusion at the 14 and 15 auto shows had similar adhesion issues - looked like they painted a fixture to the hood and pulled it away, breaking the paint...a 2015 F150, had big drips of clear on the underside that looked kinda like that too.

if it is corrosion, pressing a fingernail on it will feel 'crunchy' underneath- and also, corrosion seems to always begin at the sharp edge at end of the fold on the underside...

Possible but I doubt it. If that were the case wouldn't it have been like that from day 1? Have had the car since May 2014. Looks like the same contamination that many people have had. Truth is I have zero patience to deal with ford as I am confident what they will do will be a bandaid at best. There are people who have had two or more repaints and some who got it again after having hood replaced by ford. I detail this car on a weekly basis and that includes drying under the hood. No way I missed it for a year. Can feel the roughness when the towel goes over it. Had a 2002 WRX, 2009 G37, and 2012 STi before this car. All had aluminum hoods and none had a single paint issue. The fact that ford can't get it right after all these years is ridiculous. Someone at ford corporate worked up a spreadsheet that said how much it would cost to deal with the problem vs how much it costs to keep trying to fix it for the people that complain (repaints and hood replacements) until they are out of the 3/36 warranty at which point they deny the claim. The latter had a lower cost so that's why we are still dealing with it after 10 years.

Yes, it is corrosion. Mine started in a similar fashion and within 6 months spread to the outside. Ford replaced the hood no questions asked.

Going to give dealer one shot. Made appointment for Tuesday. Hopefully I will get same outcome. I am not accepting a repaired hood. Found it on the drivers side also. I want a new hood. Let's see how it goes. Dealer has always been very helpful so I remain optimistic.

I am curious why you would prefer replacement vs. repair. I know there's a high likelihood I'll be facing this problem as well, and I'm concerned the new hood would have contaminants as well.

I was thinking if you have a body shop that's strong in aluminum, perhaps repair is a better option as they know how to treat the hood and also where the trouble spots are. Hopefully a good body shop can make it go away permanently and retain my original hood as well.

I'm also thinking that the dealers are going to get an education in aluminum very soon because the F-150 is too big a rice bowl to ignore.

Its on multiple spots already on this hood. More will show over time. Would rather start with a new hood.

Is there a way to make sure the new hood won't blister either?

Yeah I just had mine fixed.... temporarily I'm sure. It started the same way, little bubbling under the lip then traveled to the top very quickly. Ford guys approved the fix no problem, body shop was going to order a new hood but ford wouldn't approve it and honestly I think that is just a crap shoot anyway. I just want it to look good for a couple more years then I'm going to go carbon. And the body shop did amazing work, looks better than new. Ford dealer was really nice as well, gave me a new 2015 F150 super crew for the week that they had it in the shop.

No way I am leaving it with the dealer for a week. Should take a day to paint a hood.

I liked having the truck for the extra time, used the opportunity to take a bunch of large stuff to recycle.
