2013's Time Line

Now that the cars have been shown, does anyone know when a order guide will appear and when they will start production?

Deysha from Ford Customer Service mentioned in another thread that
you will be able to start ordering the 2013 in early December. I assume
order guides will be showing up around that time as well. Not sure when
they'll start building them, February is probably correct.

Hey guys,

Your dealer will have the order guide next month, but you won't be able to build one on the site until around March of 2012. Also, production for the 2013s will start around spring time next year.

Ford made a change this week (memo dated 11/21/11): Final MY12 orders due by 1/12/12. Don't know how this 3 week move will affect Job Last and Job 1 for '12's and '13's just yet, but should know next week.

I'm very puzzled by this. I haven't followed the release dates of new cars for a few years because I've been forced to buy cars at odd times by circumstances. I know the 2011 Mustangs came out in the middle of 2010 because I was hoping to buy one, but ended up having to buy a car before they were available in any number at the dealers. So I'm driving a 2011 BMW 135i convertible, which I'm very happy with but I keep thinking maybe I'd rather have have had the Mustang.

So I went to a local Phoenix area dealer a couple days ago hoping to drive a GT convertible. There were no GT convertibles. In fact, to get one in any of the 3 colors I wanted (grabber blue or either red) the nearest he could find was in New Mexico. He said that's because they were just starting to get 2012's now and the vast majority are hardtops. He said they would have convertibles on the lot in a couple months. That all made sense until I read this thread. If they are truly going to stop building 2012's in February, where is he expecting that supply of convertibles to come from. How late in the year will the dealers continue to get new 2012's?

They're still making '12s till at least Feb so they'll still be arriving on lots until next Apr.
Also unfortunately some salesmen (not anyone on here) don't really know or keep up with things like that.. or just make stuff up. especially Mustangs, they aren't a big volume seller

I'm almost positive that Ford will do what they did on the 2011 launch. Stock units for dealer inventory will be built first to eliminate any "teething problems" before they build actual customer retail orders. I am telling people you will probably see cars arrive sometime in mid April or so. They will hold the 1st batches for quality checks before they release them and give the OK to ship!!

It's good to know the 2013's will be coming out early in the year, since I'll be waiting for one of those. I need an automatic and after having sequential shifters on my last 2 cars I was disappointed in the lack of control over the current automatic, especially with the low RPM shift points programmed into it.

Will the 2013 automatic have a different transmission or are they just adding some sort of shifter to the current one? Is there someplace I can find more info on what they will be doing with that and on the transmission they will be using if it is a different unit? If it's a brand new transmission that would be a bit worrisome. Thanks.

2011's had an entirely new drive train, '13 is mostly a cosmetic change (like '09 >'10)
so there shouldn't be a big hold for quality ctrl..
unless the auto's are new
