2013 V6 Grill - Remove/Replace Chrome Overlay?

Has anyone looked at or attempted to remove the chrome overlay in the 2013 V6 & Canadian GT grill?

It looks like it may just be snapped in, but I'm not sure if it's "pretty" underneath or if I'd need to get a new grill altogether to remove it.

Nope, have not heard anyone doing it. It is more subtle on some colors than others. I personally like it.

It's chrome plated plastic. Sand it down and spray it black. I happen to like the chrome plating and I would never touch it!

That'll give you the option down the road to have it back if you want.

Yea I was considering taking it out, sanding it, and spray painting it. Does anyone know if you would need to take off the whole front bumper?

i would do the plastic-dip as was suggested. Then if you go to sell the car etc.. you can peel it off..

yea. youre probably right. I just don't want to have to take off the whole bumper, because I dont want to have to jack my car to get under it.

Why would you have to take off your bumper to plasti dip it??

You just cover and spray. Easy as pie!

I want to replace the stock grille with the UTV billet one, that's what I was wondering about taking the bumper off. I plan on doing the plastidip on the chrome piece at the same time.

You should not have to take the bumper off. Lift the hood and remove the plastic black cover between the grille and radiator. Everything should be exposed so you can work out the snap-in tabs on the back of the grille.

I'm getting a Canadian spec GT.
Can't stand the chrome grill.

I ordered a Boss grill and will be putting that in, as soon as I get my car home.

Basically the grill comes in 2 peices. (the Boss anyway).
I will assume the V6 (ummmmm....GT grill), does also.
There is an outer peice (which in this case would be the chrome surround),
and the actual grill part, which would be the innner insert.

The Boss grill actually came in separate peices, I had to snap them all together to form the whole grill.

As for as replacment. Like mentioned in the previous post.
Just remove the black rad shrould from the top, and teh Gril just snaps in place. It's probabbly held on by 2 bolts (one per side).

I'll be changing mine, this weekend most likely.

Well I just finished the plastidip. It turned out to be a little tougher than expected to "trim it down" because of all the curves. I may redo it at some point with the grill removed. Does anyone have any reference material for removing the grill? Is it easy?

Here's the in progress and final product:

I noticed all of you have those dark colors...the chrome unfortunately really does stand out on these colors...I almost cancelled my delivery, but because my car is white...the chrome grill blended better than the blacks, grays and blue cars I noticed. A shame what they did to the CDN GTs

It's really silly to cancel delivery on a Canadian GT when you can change the grille to whatever you want. It's very fortunate that there are a wide variety of grilles that are interchangeable between all the 2013 non-Shelby models.

yeah it def stands out a lot more on the darker colors, actually doesn't look bad on white
