call his bluff. tell him then the deal is off. it's a car, it's not a heart transplant. you can find one elsewhere. they make like 200k a year.

which dealership are you working with? we are in the same area... I'm curious.

I would hold them to their contract/order. Did you sign it and did the salesman sign it? If so, that should be a binding contract. Was you getting the car at invoice or MSRP? If it was MSRP, that just means they aren't going to make as much for their mistake.

This is a typical "dealer A" tactic that unfortunately, the auto business is festered with.

I don't understand why your order is technically non-binding. If you have a sales contract with a price on it that both you and the dealer signed, then the order is binding. I just pulled my order and on the back, item 2 "Change in price" states that the dealer can ONLY change the price of the vehicle if the manufacturer has increased the price to the dealer. If this is the case, then the dealer is going to have to show you proof that the manufacturer has increased the price to the dealer. If the window sticker price has not changed, then I'd think you are safe. I understand that there are a lot of manuf to dealer incentives that change over time that affects the amount of PROFIT a dealer will make on the vehicle. But that does NOT change the price of the vehicle.

Don't mess around with the sales manager any more. Call and talk to the General Manager as well as the owner. If they don't stand behind their deal, your next call should be to the Better Business Bureau.

Another thing you can do if they don't stand behind their deal is to join as many Mustang-related websites and post the name & location of the dealership along with only factual statements that are not libelous to warn other people NOT to shop at their dealership.

There are 2 dealerships here in Illinois that have posted that they have Shelby Mustangs for sale (as well as a BOSS) but do not have the vehicles on the lot. Could be just another "bait & switch" gimmick to get buyers in their lot and try to sell you a different car.

Good luck. Keep us posted. And remember, if you post the name of the dealership as a warning to others, either only post factual items about the transaction or just say that you had a really bad experience with your order.

Hey Matt,
It's hard to say with the few details you listed but if you feel bad about the way the deal is changing, maybe you should step away.

Depending on how far away from Lansdale, PA you may want to consider Jeff at Yocum Ford. His name on here is 05fordgt and if you're within a couple of hours from him, it would be worth it. He's been helping people on here for years whether they're buying from him or not and I believe his pricing isn't much different than the XPlan price. Hands down great guy!

In any case, only you can decide if you're comfortable with the deal you have in front of you considering the time you have invested and what you had agreed upon. Good luck!

If you PM me I will tell you the dealer, rather not call them out on the website to the full public until they have had every opportunity to resolve. Maybe you guys could tell me if the deal they agreed to is way off base. The car had a sticker of $46,375

GT PREMIUM CONVERTIBLE $39,300
CALIFORNIA $1,995
ELECTRONICS $2,340
COMFORT $850
SHAKER PRO $1295

The deal signed was the following.

$41,060 ... add freight, sales tax, tags, $200 processing.

Deduct rebates $2,250 ($1,000 retail, $500 college, $750 private cash)

Thanks

Here's a perfect example of misinformation that a "dealership A" posts out there for us. I can't say whether they are purposely trying to mislead us or if they are just completely incompetent and have no idea how to do their job.

I've been checking for listings for new GT500s every week. Today, I noticed a new listing for a new 2013 blue convertible GT500. I called the dealership about it and the first person I talked with in sales told me that they had the car on the lot but she didn't have all the information on it. Before she could explain more, her supervisor took over the call. I asked her about the car. After being put on hold, she told me that the car sold as soon as it arrived at the dealership. She said that they have lots of other Mustangs. I asked about the 2013 BOSS that they also have listed online. On hold some more and then she told me that it has already been sold as well. She kept asking me to come in and look at the other Mustangs. I told her that I was only interested in a Shelby and she said for me to come in and they'll order one for me. I asked her if they had any allocations left for this year. Again, on hold, only to find out that they don't have any allocations left this year. I already knew this because I had been there around the beginning of June and they told me then that they had no more allocations.

At dinner tonight, my wife that she saw a blue Mustang there when she drove past on her way home from work tonight. Thinking that maybe they may not know what their inventory is, I got on their website's online chat to ask about the car. Here is the chat. I've removed the dealership's name as well as the agent's name. And if some of the conversation seems out of order, it's because I was typing more questions before she answered some of the previous questions.

Ford Dealer: Thank you for choosing Ford!
System: We have alerted the online representatives that you are waiting. Someone should be with you momentarily.
You: hello
System: A representative has joined the conversation. Compose your message below and then press Enter to send.
Dealer Rep: Hello, How may I help you?
You: please tell me more about the shelby you have listed online
You: stock # 0M131179
Dealer Rep: This vehicle is still in transit.
You: I'd like to stop by tonight and look at it
You: do I need an appointment?
Dealer Rep: May I ask who I'm speaking with?
You: can you give me info on the options?
You: and is this car a special order or a stock order?
Dealer Rep: It is a special order. All Shelbys are special orders. If you would like to possibly order one I can set you up with a Mustang specialist
You: so this is ordered for a customer and not for sale?
Dealer Rep: Yes, there must have been some miscommunication, it shouldn't be listed
You: Oh, I see. Does your dealership have any allocations left to order another one this year?
Dealer Rep: We do not. We are all out of orders for this year.
Dealer Rep: And I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name?
You: Ok. Thank you for your time.

In case anybody is wondering if this story is made up, the dealer's stock number is listed above in the conversation and the VIN# is 1ZVBP8KZ0D5239892.

Like I said at the beginning of this post, I can't say if the listing for this Shelby is purposely fraudulent (bait & switch) or just incompetence. This is why I will NEVER buy a car from this dealership.

By the way, if this is your car and you're reading this, I hope to see you and your car at the Shelby show in Volo IL this fall!

This is another tactic you can try...

1) Play the dealers bluff as suggested by Danielle. If you play hardball they will most likely cave (its not a huge amount). And of course also talk to Manager, see if you can make the contract stick.

2) This is how I got my 1999 Mustang.
Talk to Jeff, or another dealership recommended here on the forums.
Have the sales guy at the new dealership talk to his manager, and propose a car trade between the 2 dealerships.
This is not as far fetched as it first sounds. Dealerships do this all the time to swap inventory.
So now...Dealership A, still has a car, and you get your car (just the way you like it), from Dealership B.
And dealership A, has no clue that you will be the owner of your new custom ordered car, that you orderd in the first place.

If they want to be ****** about it. You can get them back this way.

Is the $41,060 before or after applying rebates?

The VOC in your profile lists the dealer invoice as $43403 with ad fees and delivery if I'm seeing it correctly and the MSRP as $46,375...

Even XPlan would probably be like $160 (give or take) above that invoice so $43563 would be a great price to start with on the car before rebates, taxes and dealer fees. Less than that and I think the dealer starts to lose out on what's needed to make payroll, operating expenses and a fair profit to the owner for running a business. Even if the $41,060 was after rebates, it sounds a little low but I'm not a dealer and only going by things I learned following the 'Order Guide' thread. If it's before the rebates, I don't see how they could do it. Either way, I would still call Jeff and he'll help you better understand the pricing...

Agreed. Knowing it's sitting in a yard less than 2 hours away is making my skin crawl!

Hi Deysha,
Is it possible to have an Order Number and be able to check the order status from Ford without the dealer actually have an allocation for the car? When I call SVT to check on it's status, they say it is still in process and unscheduled. The car is a GT500.
Thanks

Thanks for confirming the status of my Shelby order. To state the obvious, you provide a great service to those of us on the forum.

The ETA is always subject to change, Gniac.

I have not heard of this, Snoopy49.

I just found out that my order was not the dealers first allocation, now I am wondering if he had a second allocation and my order is it? The dealer seems to be unable or unwilling to answer these questions. I don't appreciate being jerked around by the dealer and I am trying to decide if I should just walk away from the deal.
Thanks
I understand this wait can be frustrating, but it’s definitely worth it and totally normal. The Shelby is part of our Specialty Vehicle line and production/availability can vary from the typical ordering time frames. The dealers get allocation for SVT vehicles quarterly. This said, your order may be their 2nd allocation, but it could be for a 3rd or 4th quarter build. I hope this helps.
