The customer is Ford Motor Company. After the success of the Blue Angels Mustang we built last year, Ford came to us again to build a P-51 Red Tails inspired Mustang GT.

Red Tails Ford Mustang
EAA AirVenture, the world’s greatest annual aviation celebration in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, has become known as the home for one-of-a-kind, aviation themed Ford Mustangs. The Young Eagles Auction takes place at the “Gathering of Eagles” benefit each year at AirVenture. Ford Motor Company is the exclusive automotive partner and has been a proud supporter of EAA and Young Eagles through providing vehicles and donations each year to be raffled and auctioned.
The “Red Tails Edition” Ford Mustang celebrates the contribution of the Tuskegee Airmen and offers a creative connection to the World War II Mustang fighter plane with a contemporary flare for the serious collector. The VIN is #00051 of the 2013 MY build to align with the P-51 Mustangs flown by the Tuskegee Airmen. The one-of-a-kind exterior paint job of polished aluminum and silver chrome has red and yellow accents along with exciting elements consistent with the aircraft flown by the Tuskegee Airmen. The objective of the Red Tails Mustang is to build a highly valued vehicle that will excite both enthusiasts and collectors alike. The spectacular Mustang will be on display all week, July 23rd – July 29th, at the Ford Hangar at EAA AirVenture.

Here is the plane that inspired the build.
The front bumper cover has been chromed. The silver/chrome body panels will be matte clearcoated and have a brushed aluminum look to it.
Here is the car as of about an hour ago. panels are stripped and ready for a coat of silver.

To do it right (disassembly of car - including he interior - and prep/painting individual parts), you're probably looking at close to $8-10k.
I had a Harley painted, and even though I took the parts off the bike myself and delivered them to the shop, it still cost $2500 for the prep/paint. Considering they didn't have to remove/install the parts themselves, and the relatively small surface area being worked, you can probably see how I could come up with my estimate, and that would probably be a little low, depending on who's doing the work.

Yes, the side pipes are functional. They are very similar to the side pipe operation on the Boss Mustangs. The H-pipe has flanges on both sides which bolt up to the side pipes. I have a video on my phone of the side pipes in action. I will have to edit it and load it up to YouTube.

question... since you are going with the 2013 gt500 mufflers, will you have to modify the rest of the pipes in order for the mufflers to bolt up. i would guess the GT500 exhaust is possibly thicker because of so much HP , or is the rest of the piping the same as a GT ?
