2013 Convertible Top Rattle
Hello, Sorry if this post is in the wrong spot.
I recently bought a 2013 Mustang convertible with about 50K miles on it and when the top is closed it rattles like crazy. I noticed it a bit when we test drove it but then we put the top down of course. It seems to be that it rattles where it meets the windshield on the latch points. I have found that when I close the top and latch it back down if I briefly hit the button to put it back down and put a little tension on it, it stops most of the rattling.
This is the first convertible that I have ever owned. Is this normal once the cars start getting some millage on them, or is there something like the latch that can ware out that needs to be replaced?
Thanks

I'm still amazed at how quiet mine is with the top up....certainly there's more sound than a coupe, but it's not annoying like some convertibles I've ridden in.
When I first got mine, I got a rattle that was driving me nuts. It turns out that the passenger seat belt was slapping around when all four windows were wide open. Easy fix for a non-existent problem.

Maybe the previous owner just slammed the top down every time? When I lower it. I stop just before it's about to touch, then one more push of the button to ease it in place.
That's what the salesman said to do and he was a guy who had a '65 GT convertible and had owned a 2010 V6. Mine at 40,000kms is rattle-free.

I do the same....stop with a small gap remaining then give the button a push and hold the center handle and ease it in, then latch. No noises at all. 2014 v6 with 22000 on it and no issues at all yet. Although I have slipped up on it once or twice and had the accidental slam down, then curse myself out for it haha.

Ok sounds like a trip to the dealer is needed. I am guessing something is wrong with it since you guys are saying that yours can slam shut. Mine stops even if the button was pressed to close about 1/2" or so from the top of the windshield before I lock the latches.

Let me know once you've talked to your dealer's service manager. I'll look into options on my end to further assist.

Thanks Jeff. I probably wont have a chance to get it to a dealer until the end of the month or so. I will let you know after the visit.
