2012 Power steering broke
See - you have yet to make any contribution to the forum. Other than a whine and ***** thread. At least you learned who Mulally is. lol
You know, I have a 69 2 ton cattle truck here on the ranch and steering it is no different than your power steering pump not giving you the cozy hydraulic assisted steering you're crying about.
Sure it's hard when you're not moving. But it still steers nonetheless.
Now that your mind is closed against Ford and an electric hydraulic fluid pump, I'm sure this won't matter to you. But for the benefit of others reading your stuff, maybe it will interest them:

If you loose power steering, you will still have manual steering. You will
still be able to drive and steering the front wheels. The one that I had that
locked up was a rental vehicle and nobody was driving the vehicle when the steering locked up. It was in a parking lot that got flooded. Water and
electricity do not mix.
When the EPAS system fails, you only loose power steering. You will still
have control of the vehicle ad be able to steer the vehicle safely to the side of the road.

When my power steering went out as I was turning into the parking lot it
became incredibly difficult to rotate the steering wheel back and forth. Even once I put the vehicle into park I couldn't manipulate the wheel back and forth very much at all. Is what I'm describing similar to what manual steering would feel like or is this different?

Same as manual steering was back in the 1960s.

Awesome cut and paste cdynaco, its cool how you left this part out from the link you provided:
My Ford 801s and 9N tractors dont have power steering either, as well as my Polaris Ranger 700, or the old Subaru Brat I had years ago.
I apologize for crying about faulty steering systems on newer cars. You are right. I should sack up and accept the fact that vital safety components are designed with an accepted amount of failure. I mean really....who cares if YOU die in an accident. Apparently I shouldn't.

A. Penland replied 9 months ago. We have had problems with the EPAS system on the newer Fords. Not to scare you, but I even had an EPAS system lock up solid and I could not turn thewheels or the steering wheel.

Im sure your 14,000 posts are filled with such informative viewpoints as this. Way to go, Post Master General.
I'm surprised that this thread hasn't been locked yet and people warned to just zip it. This is just ridiculous. Too bad i didn't have a way to block this and just not see this post anymore. Guess I'll just unsubscribe from this idiotic thread.

I posted this already but in your anger against Ford and the world you must have missed it.
Or maybe your Mustang was flooded and you're trying to get Ford to fix it anyway.

Joining a forum to contribute info - incl problems - is pretty normal for a forum. Joining a forum just to go on and on about a problem - even though it is unfortunate - is typical of a spammer or troll. We try to reduce those threads.
And feel free to ignore my many mechanical/technical posts. Its fits a spammer's modus operandi.
Yep - definitely ready for a lock.

In an effort to keep the information here relevant and to rebutt your misinformation, the EPAS is not hydraulic. There is no fluid or pump. It is an electronic motor attached to the steering rack that is supposed to aid in steering effort, however, when it fails, it adds extra drag to the steering system.
cdynaco And feel free to ignore my many mechanical/technical posts.
Here's an interesting read for anyone interested in the safety concerns regarding EPAS

Seriously, can we get some
?? This thread has served it's purpose and become a hatred filled battleground. Enough is enough. This should be under "Warranty and Service " anyway.

the hatred here is pretty rediculous. I just wanted to talk about power steering issues and ive been bombarded with hatred about low post counts, whining, and lack of contribution, by some members who dont even understand how the steering works but act jerks cuz they have a high post count.. Shameful.
Update:
Just talked to service manager at my dealer. They are putting it back together right now and it should be done by tomorrow morning.
I asked him what the exact problem was with it. He said " the big *** motor on the power steering stopped working. Thats usualy what goes wrong on these. Its pretty common".
Take it for whats its worth.

My 2011 GT Power steering assist just went out too...Drove fine three days prior failure. Hopped into car to put into garage and idiot lights came on, Service Power Steering Assist and traction control...Wonder if one is connected to the other. Any way, no accidents, curb bumps or listing the car incorrectly. Like i said car was stationary for a few days. This is a death warrant in the making...will be fixing this and getting rid of this car...
I wonder how many people were injured or worst due to this issue.
