2012 Mustangs already???

Why Ford is building the 5.0/3.7 mustangs 3/4-1/2 year in advance? The blue oval now has pricing on 2012's with orders coming soon. Is this in preparation to move 160,000 units out like they did in 05-07? This doesnt make sense to me.

Two words: Boss 302.

This is old news, the order guide was released on 11/19/10 and the order window opened either that day or a few days earlier or later.

Funny, it's Jan 2011 and I have had my new 2011 mustang for 6 months (some owners have had theirs for 8 months). They have been doing this so that they can sell the first model on the Mustang's birthday.....April 15th. Just my guess. The first mustang was a 1964 1/2 so it is in the heritage.

Its funny. Both my Mustang and my wife's Mazdaspeed3 were built 5/10. The only difference is mine is a 2011 and hers is a 2010, lol...

It just seems a little early. Does anyone know how many 2011's were produced?

They're still building 2011's until January 14th, so there is no total to announce just yet. The highest 2011 Mustang VIN our dealership has in the order banks is just shy of 70,000, so I suspect that's as good a guess for 2011 production as any right now.

Are those sales figures 2010 & 2011 models combined? Were the numbers compared to camaro sales combined also? I can understand the 2010 camaro selling more than the 2010 mustang model, but not the improved 2011's. This year, I expect the mustang to be back on top.

Wow...the last production on the 14th? My 2011 GT is scheduled for delivery the last week of Jan...so I guess I'm getting one of the last 2011's to roll off the line!

Yes, that was for sales of all new Mustangs sold during the 2010 calendar year, regardless of which model year (2011, 2010, and maybe even some leftover 2009's).

I'm there with you! Our 2011 MCA has a build date of 1/7 and an ETA of 1/27. When's your build date? BTW, you can get it from the window sticker. Below is a link to our window sticker, and the date of 0107 is in the upper left just previous of the Blend Number, prefixed with 12011.

That's a cool website to see the window sticker. My salesman at the dealership says mine is due in the week of the 23rd. But he didn't give me a VIN yet. Should he have given me one by now? Or do I need to ask him for it? Thanks for the link!

As soon as Ford assigns a VIN, that info is viewable via Vehicle Visibility, which is an internal system your salesman should have access to. I ordered on 10/26 and the VIN was given to me by my salesman on 11/19. The window sticker will appear 1-2 weeks before the scheduled build date. I guess because of the holidays, our car's window sticker was started appearing around 12/21. You just have to ask for it.

Maybe your window sticker will show your name like mine. If so, you'll see it listed last under Optional Equipment, following "TAG 000A000".

2 points of clarification:

Your order will show up in Vehicle Visibilty as soon as you have a DORA with a valid Dealer Number and an order number.

The 000A000 denotes an APlan sale and is independent of the name being on the tag.

Thanks for clarifying. My order/purchase is using X-Plan and the sticker still shows TAG 000A000. Perhaps this is why Ford scheduled its build date (1/7) so far out from the order date (10/26).

Usually an XPlan order that I've seen has 000X000 in the tag but either way it will show the XPlan price on the invoice.

As far as the build date vs order date, it's more likely that the issue is with scheduling with a 2 week Christmas break than anything else. If you take out those 2 weeks it's only roughly 7 weeks from order to build which isn't unusual for the end of a model year where dealers are going to be burning off their allocations.

In our case the Ford Zone Rep actually told the salesperson and his GSM that any order mustang order made before the end of October would arrive before the end of the year, but that wasn't true.

Seeing that they are still building 11's and that they were planning to until the 17th, I would say somebody kinda messed up
