December 2010 Camaro Sales Production Figures Ends Mustang’s 23 Year Sales Reign

http://www.camaro5.com/december-2010...ar-sales-reign

The December 2010 Camaro sales and production figures have now been posted and what the data reveals is that 81,299 Camaros were sold in all of 2010, beating out the 73,716 Mustangs sold in 2010 and 36,791 Challengers overall, as well as in December 2010 alone.

This ends the Mustang’s 23 year reign as the muscle car sales leader. Congrats to GM and all our Camaro owners for producing and owning the 2010 muscle car king! December 2010 and overall 2010 stats are as follows:

Delivery (sales) Stats:
Camaro December 2010 Deliveries (actual sales): 5,614
Total January 2010 - December 2010 Deliveries: 81,299

Production Stats:
Camaros Produced in December: 7,075
Camaros produced in 2010: 94,433
Total Model Year 2011 Camaros produced to date: 47,216

Total Model Year 2010 + 2011 Camaros produced to date: 176,621

Compared to Competition:
Mustang sold 5,452 units in December 2010 (total of 73,716 in 2010).
Challenger sold 3,330 units in December 2010 (total of 36,791 in 2010

Part of me hates to see news like this, and rumors about the more powerful V6 coming in the 2012 Camaro, but as we all know, competition improves the breed, and while Ford hasn't exactly been sitting back on its laurels in regards to improving the Mustang the last few years, this should force them to keep on their toes with the pricing, features, and performance of the Mustang in the coming years.

If raw sales figures are going to be used in a pissing match with the Camaro fanboys though, we can just look at what the sales figures were for 2003-08 for the Camaro vs the Mustang. One year of better sales out of the last 23 or so for the Camaro doesn't mean much.

Somebody on here posts a monthly sales graph and if you notice Mustang sales have been tanking for the last 3 or 4 months after the initial new model spike..

Pretty interesting that sales were relatively unaffected by the 2011 refresh. Actually looked like a worse year than 2009.

There is some pent-up demand from the mullet crowd:

Camaro sales:
2003 = Zero
2004 = Zero
2005 = Zero
2006 = none
2007 = ditto
2008 = nothing
2009 = a hand full

Of course, there would be no GM (or Camaro) without the bailout from the U.S. taxpayer.

What would a trailer park look like without a Camaro in the front yard?

FWIW - 4000 deliveries in November is an average of 80 per state which is pretty darn low.

The Camaro had to win at something since it takes bolt on's to keep up with a stock 5.0 Mustang.

My view of this:
That is mostly because of the early part of the year when they weren't producing ANY Mustangs for about a month and all the enthusiasts were waiting for the 5.0 and would not take a 4.6 off the lot that looked the same.
Even now, there are still 2010 4.6 cars still sitting on the lots while people wait for their 5.0 cars.
All bets are off for new year anyway as the price of gas goes up.
Fiestas will have ADMs.

Some positives from the graph:

1) At it's peak the mustang sold the most
2) I'll admit the Camaro won by a solid margin, but it wasn't a blowout by any stretch. Not like 4:1 ratio the Stang outsold the maro by to end its life in '02
3) There are many who still have '05-'09s that either due to economical reasons or personal preference didn't see the '10-'11 as enough of a change to make the jump. More than likely these same people will be primed to buy when the '14 debuts

That being said I'm will to be the race will be within 1000 cars between these two next year

I still don't understand how people can get past the Gawd awful interior of the Slowmaro. That alone would deter me from buying one.

Exactly. Pent-up demand has played a huge roll in the Camaro's resurgence, IMO. I have a feeling that the novelty is wearing off; really, who wants a two-ton car you can't see out of? Also worth noting is the fact that, prior to the Challenger's release, the musclecar battle for quite some time was pretty much between only the Mustang and Camaro. Who knows how many extra sales the Mustang and Camaro would have garnered, respectively, if the Challenger, like before, didn't exist. Perhaps the gap would have been tighter? Would the Mustang have would have been sales champ?

Exactly. That is a big factor and cannot be ignored. Some Chevy people will never by a Ford product (and vica versa) and so now that demographic finally has a chance for a spin in a modern muscle car because they went without for so many years when it was the NoMaro.

Even though the 5.0 is awesome, many will not 'upgrade' to the diaper styling. 10/11 looks good until you get a glance at that rat's junk hangin below the trunk. If Ford wants the '14 to lure many of the 05-09ers in, they need to fix that rear end abomination.

that's why i also said 'personal preference'. In way its a good thing the styling turned off some because now a lot of them will be in a good position to buy again in 2014

I agree. The exterior is great while the interior leaves a lot to be desired. That goofy dash and a horrible steering wheel.
